Ahhh Copey…I was such a big fan from 1980 to about 2000. And then he turned into…what? He’d like you to think he was a shamanistic seer or something, but in reality he became the type of berk one tries to […]

I really like Get Ready, all of it. Regret, from the Republic album, is a brilliant single but I’ve played Get Ready miles more as an album. Crystal, 60 Miles an Hour and Turn My Way are all great.

I really like both of these, been listening to then on Spotify for a few days now. Fair play to him for trying something a bit different. Anyone know if the She Belongs To Me cover is a recent recording or not?

Discovered these a while ago and have been keeping an eye. A band very much in the Milkshakes/Billy Childish/Prisoners vein, who look an absolute hoot live if their youtube clips are anything to go by. I must go […]

Well I’m certainly enjoying what I’ve heard so far. Starfish and Blurred Crusade are both fantastic, although in slightly different ways. I do like the slightly more lush sound of Starfish but the springy psych of […]

The Church (the band)How on earth have I missed this band? For me, a massive Smiths, Bunnymen and Go-Betweens fan in the 80s, this is clearly a huge loss. I […]

Quite tempted by this. Never seen Misty unfortunately but I’d like to, and having seen Ruts DC back in early summer I can report that they were superb and well worth checking out.

A version of Dr. Feelgood have been touring for years, and still managed by Chris Fenwick, original band manager I believe.

Surely they’d have to be called ReBjorn Again?

God yes. It’s a really irritating thing isn’t it? Smacks of injokeness and “aren’t we great for giving the plebs a glimpse behind the curtain?” Nah, go away and finish the whole creative process off properly. […]

Pedants corner…I think it might have been Tracey Thorn who covered it on the b side of one of her very early singles.

It’s a very odd sounding production by Tim Hart on that album too. Good, well arranged songs, but the actual sound, although crystal clear, is really thin and lacking in impact. A real shame because it could have […]

Great article Niall, really enjoyed reading it. Excellent to read a potted history of The Monochrome Set on here too. They were the first proper gig I went to so I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for them.

I always thought they had a small handful of OK songs but they all seemed to go on for far too long. Way too long in some cases. Oddly they are very popular with my kids’ generation, ie early 20 somethings who I […]
