I really enjoyed some of their “cold opens” (if that is the correct term? I’m not really sure, but I’ve read it somewhere and I think it refers to the stuff that happens before the opening credits, that doesn’t […]

This is Haim’s full set, rather than just a couple of songs.

Unless I’m very much mistaken, one song was edited out of the BBC footage in the hour delay. Acccording to the Guardian he played “In Spite of All The Danger” but there was no sign of it on the stream that I […]

Matthew Best commented on the post, Four Tet wins royalty battle over streaming music 1 month, 3 weeks ago
But it’s not his streaming revenue – it’s his Spotify revenue. Spotify accounts for about a quarter of streaming revenue, so you’d have to multiply that by four to get his streaming total.

It seems when a lot of musicians complain about Spotify streaming rates, what they are really complaining about is how much of those streaming royalties they actually receive.

It was probably a quote that Lefsetz printed in his newsletter – or possibly an email to Lefsetz from Ciambotti (he often sends out correspondence that he’s received).
But I repeat, Lefsetz was never the bass […]

Bob Lefsetz was definitely not the bass player in Clover or on “My Aim Is True” – that was John Ciambotti.
Lefsetz is not a musician of any sort.

Matthew Best commented on the post, Elvis Costello and the Imposters – the Boy named If tour 2 months ago
I don’t know how he does things now, but I know that years ago the band didn’t do soundchecks. They got their roadies to do them instead. One time many years ago I got to ride in Elvis’s tour bus and accompanied […]

I thought they were pretty inoffensive and even occasionally pleasant to listen to, but I got the impression (which may be completely unfair) that the keyboard-playing half of the band was rather arrogant, and […]

They were still doing an absolutely cracking version of that just a few years ago:

Matthew Best commented on the post, How will you be spending “Amateur Night” (aka New Year’s Eve)? 7 months, 2 weeks ago
I’m spending the whole night at work so not much of a NYE for me. I will open a bottle of prosecco and share it with the other four people in the building, but that’s about it. We have to keep awake until 7am, […]

Hmmm. It’s a point of view, though I think it’s a little bit unfair to describe someone doing a spot-on homage to Jay Graydon’s guitar solo in Peg WHILE SKATING BACKWARDS as “relentlessly dull”.

His latest thing is Cory Wong On Ice!
It’s pretty much as it says on the tin. Wong and his super-tight band (including Prince alumni Sonny T and Michael Nelson) playing on an ice rink. Even the drummer is […]
