joe robert commented on the post, Their most famous album isn't their best 1 month ago
I don’t know what album is seen as Neil Young’s ‘best’ – After the Gold Rush, Harvest, Rust Never Sleeps or one of the Doom Trilogy perhaps – but none of them is as good as his definitive album: Zuma.

“And is anyone managing to keep the mystery alive less than Neil Young?”
This is it for me. As a couple of people above have commented, whatever he releases now should have no bearing whatsoever on his pre […]

joe robert commented on the post, Another week, another lost Neil Young album 1 year, 6 months ago
Also, one of his great ‘lost’ songs – Barefoot Floors – demoed at the time of On the Beach but too late to make it onto the album, has just been added to the Neil Young Archives site, with no fanfare. Neil’s biogr […]

63 “previously unreleased” songs. Admittedly in most cases this means an alternate version of a song that has been released – but often they are sufficiently different to be worth bothering with. In this case ‘un […]

joe robert wrote a new post, Neil Young Archives 2 – it’s a bit of all right 1 year, 8 months ago
It only came out yesterday and there are ten discs’ worth, so I haven’t given it the requisite six listens – in fact I haven’t even got to the end yet – but boy does it contain some gems so far.
I’m not one of […] -
joe robert commented on the post, Neil Young Archives 2 Tracklisting 1 year, 10 months ago
Am I only one excited about this? It covers my favourite Neil period, and having heard somewhat scratchy unofficial versions of the likes of Pushed It Over the End, Love/Art Blues and the beautiful Stringman, I […]

It’s not the kind of thing I’d shout from the rooftops, but I have to admit to Kisses on the Bottom as being something of a guilty pleasure.
The album of the same name, however, not so much.

joe robert commented on the post, A question for all Mick Herron Slow Horses' fans 2 years ago
I had Greg Davies in my head. Not portly enough, perhaps, but I can really hear some of Lamb’s insults in his voice.
On the subject of bad casting decisions: David Morrissey is far too dashing to play Tom Thorne. […]

Mid-40s now, it would have been 91/92 that I was getting into him.
Yes, Axis was passed over for the Cornerstones compilation. I’d have swapped out a couple of the posthumously released tracks for Little W […]

I’m going to stick up for Axis, admittedly from a fairly biased point of view.
When I had the chance to ask for a proper Hendrix album for Christmas, at the age of 16, I chose Axis for a couple of reasons. F […]

The amount of swearing in modern chart music is one of my great bugbears – and I realise what a grumpy old prude that makes me sound. Over a third of the tracks in the current UK Top 40 playlist on Spotify have […]

Not so much a television filming location as a Word magazine shoot location.
A few years after I moved on from a London job, there was a work reunion planned for a Saturday evening. The venue was a pub in […]

Agree with the comments above that it is too long. And yes that is partly because they threw the kitchen sink at it, but also due to some long talky bits that could have been handled with more economy. The comic […]
