I love porridge. Breakfast of Champions. You try tossing your caber in front of the Queen at the Braemar Gathering with just a bowl of Alpen inside you. Not going to happen is it?

For a few years in the early 80s, Run Like Hell was used as the theme song for Sportscene, BBC Scotland’s version of Match of the Day.
The opening titles featured an aerial view of the River Plate stadium before […]

I’m disappointed in Junior making that mistake.
As a punishment, I propose that from now on, AC/DC be referred to as a Scottish band.

Well, my theory is that Glam Rock “changed the game” in the early 70s by showing that you could have chart success without the need for any pretty boys. Bands like Slade, Alice Cooper and The Sweet were […]

I was taught that The Crucible was an allegory for the infamous House Un-Afterwordian Activities Committee where blog members were pressurised to name those who held views such as The Abbey Road medley being a […]

Oh for Heaven’s sake Arthur, Brighton Rock is a Brian May song. Do you really think Freddie would have allowed him to plonk a five minute guitar solo into one of his songs?
What’s the matter with everyone […]

I agree on the lyrics part. My favourite Pink Floyd album is the Live at Pompeii soundtrack. There’s very little lyrics on it, and a good percentage of what there is was improvised by a dog.

That was a Syd track, KFD. Honestly. Please consider yourself barred from posting clips of Kazakh folk and Javanese Gamelan until Friday.

You get used to it, to a degree. When I first came out here, I was sweating all the time, whereas now, like Chris above, I’m ok with a ceiling fan at home most of the time.
I miss the seasons, but at the same […]

I think Maigret’s idea of enjoyment would be a 3 hour lunch in the Brasserie Dauphine, wolfing down some veal and Bordeaux with some Calvados to finish off. All the while smoking a pouch of ready rubbed in his […]

I have problems with the Maigret novels. I’ve read about a third of them (there are about 70), but whenever I’m in the library, looking at the titles, I can never remember which ones I’ve read. The titles don’t […]

But I expect that Zappa’s most famous album is Sheik Yerbouti, which I think was his most successful in the US. In fact, the only one, apart from Apostrophe that actually did any serious business. And the thing is […]

I agree with More Specials, which I think is a lot of fun and very underrated.
As for Madness, I think Rise and Fall and Keep Moving are better than both One Step Beyond and Absolutely. Is there a consensus on […]

I think The Bevis Frond guy, Richard, was on Countdown a few times in the 90s. Did well too, I think.
I can’t confirm, because, despite being a student in the 90s, I didn’t have my afternoons free because I did […]
