No Mike Ronson means no Moonage Daydream which is one of the greatest solos ever played and my personal favourite. More obscure but just as good is his solo from I’d Give Anything To See You No a bad list in […]

I used to say that the song I heard my mate’s band playing and which kick started my journey to being a musician was Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones. It was actually Run to You by Bryan Adams.

LL Cool J – Mama Said Knock You Out Specifically when the opening Sly sample stops, there is a brief pause before LL shouts ‘Don’t call it a comeback’ and the Funky Drummer beat drops. Very exciting.

You could go for Thunderstruck but I think this song wouldn’t be out of place on Highway to Hell and this – which I think was Jane’s Addiction’s comeback in the early 2000s is as good as anything from Ritual.

It’s hard to understate the impact this album (and Fools Gold) had on me, and also their interviews of the time as a 16 year old. Growing up there was still a huge amount of tribalism among my friends inherited […]
