Oi oi, it’s only Michael ‘Olga’ Toy Dolls Algar on guitar!

Madonna – Papadum Preach

Eton Trifles by The Jam

Man alive, Bingo, that’s some beautiful writing. Brought a tear too my eye. Keep ’em coming. A couple of years after its release, I was talking to Neil Tennant in a lift at London Studios (formerly London Weekend […]

I’m hoping that after Southampton’s semi-final play off win last night we’ll be hearing ‘The Saints Are Coming’ a fair bit.

I worked with Jobbo on a TV series many years ago, and can confirm that he indeed is a lovely fellow.

What a great thread. The comment by @beezer regarding not being remembered if he went to a reunion struck several chords with me. A therapy client a few years ago told me that he worked out a way of ‘going under […]

So many sports seem to think the knee is a ball and socket rather than hinge joint. My recurring ailment is a Bakers Cyst, which, as I’m sure you know, can’t be removed on account of having no lining. There’s […]

Every paragraph a beauty, @Bingo-Little! It’s the aspect of running that I miss the most. Incidentally, Francine Shapiro, the inventor of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy came up with […]

I turned 60 earlier in the year, and have entered the Lightweight Male 60-64 UK indoor rowing championships, which are in December. Yes, it’s a thing, racing 2000 metres on the Concept2 machines; I did the world […]

Gosh, Bingo, that’s great stuff, the macro and micro intertwined. I especially liked, and utterly chimed with, your mention of feeling nostalgic for childhood whilst experiencing it.

Peter James, Shirley? I agree re the Grace backstory; I kept with them mainly because of the local Brighton refs. Very poor TV adaptation, John Simm as wooden as it gets. I started on the Mark Billingham ouevre […]

Context is key for me. I was watching the Netflix series One Day the other day, and suddenly, there’s House Of Love’s Love In A Car, which I used to listen to and love, and here it is, after years of me hardly […]

Emma by Hot Chocolate. It doesn’t end well.

To all the above, I’d add Lindisfarne’s Lady Eleanor, which scared and scarred me at 8, knowing nothing of the Fall Of The House of Usher upon which it’s based. I’d extend the theme to those songs that conveye […]

Yeah but obv they can all be sorted by George’s Marvellous Medicine.

And the soundtrack for Sauteed Night Fever.

I think that Messrs Brown, Squire et al will find, once they calm themselves down, that they were cancelled because we’d been promised an exclusive and they only went and appeared on The Late Show on the Tuesday […]

My memory, like Bob Mortimer/Tubby Brewster’s balance, often seems shot to shit, but you mentioning Pursey and crime caused some hippocampal activity and I remember that when I was working on the Jonathan Ross […]
