Possibly Chadwick’s worst lyric. ‘You’re not a bangle’ to rhyme with ‘angle’ is piss-poor, but then he tops it all with the final line: ‘You shit on them’ And yep, TB’s guitar is as limpidly beautiful as ever […]

As ever with @gardener ‘s mixes, the non-music inserts are beautifully apposite. If it weren’t so devalued by overuse I’d say ‘curated’, or maybe even nudge into ‘mise en scene’. Great stuff, any road.

I listened to an hour of this last night. Thank you so much, @gardener – brilliantly constructed, magnifique.

Great work, Niall. My oldest pal is 24 years sober, and has had quite the journey, culminating in becoming a dad for the first time in his late 50s. Incidentally, I waited and waited to see the downside, any […]

Thank you so much for those two hours, Ian. Best wishes to you and your wife.

Cheers for that, Steve. Weller in the most affable mood I’ve ever heard, and genuinely tickled by the jingles (calm down!) Maybe being away from the liberal metropolitan elite brought about the jocularity.

Great stuff. And a joy to see reference to young Tyler Dibling, whose Man of the Match interview after the draw with Brighton was like Billy Elliott’s Royal Ballet audition in reverse. The ‘electricity’ had alrea […]

Roy Keane? Whilst this could be viewed through a ‘Bantz’ lens, I do love the final 20 seconds.

I find Five Live’s Monday Night Club to be the perfect balance of the old and new. It’s even caused me to like Chris Sutton. And Rory Smith, what a wonderful fellow.

I was also born in 1964. What does that make me, other than 60 years old?

…and here’s Weller (and Noel Gallagher) doing Tin Soldier at the Steve Marriott tribute gig, with Steve ‘Love Affair’ Ellis handling vocal duties.

Yep, suggestive of a more authentic view, when it’s actually as authentic as Mike Yarwood saying ‘And this is me’ and singing ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’

The BBC likes to pause that bit too long in the switch back to the studio from an outside reporter or interviewee, particularly on news programmes. I’m often expecting the subject, imagining their contribution’s […]

Those days at TS were definitely my favourite times in the world of magazines etc. Perhaps ironically, I think music mags/weeklies brought out a more competitive/antagonistic aspect in writers, whereas sport […]

At some point in the mid 90s I used to do a weekly comedy slot on Danny Baker and Danny Kelly’s 5Live football show. I’d type it up and then pre-record it midweek at the Beeb, usually overseen by an ancient eng […]

They offered him a temporary replacement, but he was having none of it. No more hire cars for Hugh.

I think HC got a convertible, but again things kept going wrong. ‘Always the sun(roof)!’ he’d shout.
