Arthur Cowslip commented on the post, Who whacked me in the arm with a hammer overnight? A Covid first jab survey. 6 hours, 5 minutes ago
I’m type 1 diabetic (just recently diagnosed – a nice christmas present!) which was why I was fast-tracked.
You sound very clued up. I’m terrible for not bothering with the detail of these things a lot of the […]

I didn’t have to sit down after my JAG, no. So it was the other one!

Had my first jag yesterday. Is it bad that I don’t know which one it was, Pfizer or whatever?? I didn’t even think to ask. I’m very trusting.
The side effects have been so mild that I wouldn’t even have given […]

Oh – yes of course! That’s what that song reminds me of. Very similar feel, isn’t it?
RE The Bewlay Brothers – I never much understood the love for that song, I’m afraid. Each to his own!

Bad lyrics don’t usually bother me too much to be honest. Just occasionally a line sticks out, and that particular one has bugged me for years.
I can even stand Robert Plant’s Tolkien stuff… “In the darkest […]

I knew as soon as I typed that there was something wrong. I think I improved his line!

Wonderful. I’m glad you liked it because that is the Right Decision. I was worried you might dismiss it as sub-Elton John piano nonsense. But that opening run of songs is truly unbeatable. I’m not as much of a fan […]

Arthur Cowslip commented on the post, Anyone Else Started Watching "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" On the BBC iPlayer? 5 days, 5 hours ago
Yeah, I’m half an hour into the first episode. It’s certainly dense. And pretty much what I expected from my post above. He has terrific sleight of hand and keeps shifting from one story to another without you […]

I was actually going to start a thread about Adam Curtis recently, based on this Idler interview he did, “Social media is a scam” (it seems to be an older interview, but has been revived now he’s on the scene […]

In that sense he reminds me a bit of Slavoj Zizek – do you know him? He SEEMS like a dizzying intellect, and has great quotable lines and a nose for pop culture, but I find myself three or pages into one of his […]

I agree. When I used to watch his films I always thought I was missing something and maybe just wasn’t clever enough to follow his arguments. But then I realised it’s not me, it’s him! There’s a lot of smoke and […]

I think it’s just artists’ temperament. Never being happy with what you create and wanting to do it all over again. We listeners hear a charming, human sounding recording with spontaneity and quirky mistakes. The […]

Oh it’s horrible. It’s a fantastic example of Why Records Sounded Better In The Seventies. It’s almost like a scientific experiment: the same musician using the same instruments playing (almost) exactly the same […]

No, the 2009 tubular bells reissue has a 5.1 mix from the original multitrack, definitely. It’s got Vivian stanshall and everything. It’s unsubtle… and I love it!

Ha ha! Yes, with my newfound love of 5.1 sound I am going to quit this one horse town and set up stall in Hoffmanville. 🙂
I’ve changed…. It’s not you, it’s me…

I only really know him from In A Silent Way, but I’m sure I’ve heard more of his stuff over the years on various compilations and things. RIP.
