For the first time I recently participated in The Velvet CD Swap (for those not familiar it is a compilation CD share, but with Rules from the overlords – genres/categories/themes etc., and with no songs/artists disclosed)
Anyway, I have now received two CDs (out of 3) from my selected friends and there has been one track on each that I was unfamiliar with and made me go “wow”, necessitating me cheating and determining more information about each one, involving essential purchases. The two in question – for what it’s worth – were “Lost In The Light” by Bahamas and “Motel #9” by Jonah Tolchin (lovely-looking vinyl version here).
*italics* any posting of these greatly appreciated!
So, please feel free to share any recent discoveries you were not familiar with, that caused a sharp intake of breath.
You are a lucky man. I sent out my Velvet CDs nearly three weeks ago and haven’t received any yet. Can’t recall being so eager for the mail delivery since childhood birthdays…..
The CD I sent out was relentlessly spectacular. At least it seemed that way at the time. I’ve since done a little checking on one of the recipients, and I think he’s going to find it a slog. Here’s a cut I have been loving that I would have put on the CD, if only the song had been a little shorter. Esteemed Afterworder atcf is responsible for making the introduction–many thanks, sir or madam.
Oh, spoke too soon. First CD arrived today. Both the others will surely be at my doorstep tomorrow. You know how it is, you wait weeks for a CD to arrive, then three show up all at once…
I’ve sent mine out and received two “official” discs back.
Have also done a behind-the-scenes swap with someone who I’ve known IRL for years. Which (as described in updates to the Facebook group) resulted in a comedy moment as he mistook it for one of his official swaps, and sent me a drunken rant about how it was universally awful 🙂
Drink more
(oh for goodness’ sake)

Not a hint of anything from one of mine.
Yours any good?
Any suggestions for something great?

I’ve had one Velvet CD back so far. This is the last track, and I love it (cheated and googled the lyrics to identify it)
…that is exactly how I identified mine, and is why a rather good guitar/bongo/mambo instrumental on latest receipt has not been identified yet!
Similarly sent off three and have heard nowt and received nowt back
