Like most of us, Girlfriend pretty much defined my early 90’s and I’ve followed him off and on since then but this is really sad. Had a stroke in Toronto and they reckon it’ll be a long time and a lot of money to get him well. Let’s hope for a complete recovery

I’m with the OP – Girlfriend and Altered Beast were my 1990s go-to albums in a world which seemed to be infused with these nasty Britpop types…
I’m sure it won’t be quick – but I hope that he’s able to pull through and recover well.
He didn’t define my early 90s, don’t know much about him apart from the covers albums with Susanna Hoffs. Of course I still wish him as full a recovery as possible.
If he doesn’t have health insurance it is a blessing of sorts that it happened in Canada. Emergency treatment here costs nothing like as much as in the US.
He has to be medevaced to the States, and as an American in Canada has to pay.
The GFM is asking for $250k for a reason.

Sad also to hear that he was supporting Hanson at the time. Now, I’m no Hanson hater (The Tinted Windows supergroup was fantastic) but surely he was of a sufficient stature to tour in his own right?

Not a lot, but presumably enough to make it worthwhile.
Neither have ever been what you might call superstars.
TR is doing a few gigs over here currently. Not sure what CH has going on.
They’d have to be doing a string of gigs to make it pay. Arts centres and established music pubs and clubs, where overheads are low.
Presumably they have a basic UK pickup band accompanying them. Travelodge-style hotels etc. Nobody at their level gets label support these days.
Terry Reid plays solo, with a pedal steel player as accompaniment to his guitar and voice. Small venues mainly. Hare and Hounds, Brum, cap about 200 or so, last month. I didn’t go, as I saw him last time around, at the Robin 2, in Bilston. I expect Robert Plant will have attended. The Chris Hillman is not that one from the Byrds, but is his current steel player. It was BJ Cole when I went.
Last time I saw Terry Reid, a good few years back, he’d brought a piano player over with him and had a good UK guitar-bass-drums trio backing him.
The poster I saw in Norwich said “Chris Hillman ex-Byrds”. NAC wouldn’t tell porkies, would they?

Unfortunately, the NAC employee who did the poster was probably an intern who did their research on Wikipedia.
The BBC news site suffers enough of this, and they’re all paid staff. You’d hope so, anyway.
I was but passing through the Fine City when a chap I knew from my distant past met me in the street and said “How long you here for, I’m going to see Terry Reid and that guy from The Byrds tonight?”
“Sorry mate, I’m off to Walberswick where I’ll probably drink three pints of Adnams Best before falling asleep” I replied.
Apparently Roger McGuinn joined them for the encore. Seems it was a great night.
