Whenever I hear of Marilyn, my mind takes me back to the excruciating appearance with Mark Ellen (“Mr. Smash Hits”) on Jim’ll Fix it. There’s an episode of the Word podcast where Mark talks about the experience at length – hilarious!

35 years too early for the whole transgender thing. She’d be creaming it now.
Speaking of never-were early 80s wannabe hip popstars, how about some love for Hayzie fantazie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1ov1G0e6IY
I just KNOW Sigue Sigue Sputnik will emerge all too soon here.
Ooooh I couldn`t resist…
Up arrow, of course
Hey Mr Complete Porky One, have you acquired Love`s `Forever Changes` 2x45rpm yet?
no! I didn’t know about it – thanks for the tip 🙂
It`ll cost you now mate £60-£80+
Thanks WH! Um … am I asking too much for the link to the said Word podcast you mentioned..? 🙂
I think he may have mentioned it in about 15 of them! (and his book)
Just watched the OP video.
I had forgotten how creepy Saville was.
I watched Depeche Mode’s two appearances on Jim’ll Fix It the other day and had similar icky feelings re Savile.
“Interestingly”… the first appearance on JFT featured Dave Gahan singing Get the Balance Right with the adoring teenage fan that had written to the show, wanting to sing with the band. The “interesting” bit is that this is the one and only time that Depeche Mode have had a guest vocalist.
I am in a belligerent mood, so will indulge myself by pointing out that the journo seems to have glossed over the fact that Marilyn appears to have spent the best part of 30 years as a waster sponging off his Mum.
“And here’s to you, Mrs Robinson”
Sid Barrett did much the same, didn’t he?
(Would have been receiving fatter royalty cheques, though)
And Mr Gilmour continues to provide for the Barrett estate by including Astronomy Domine on every live album he releases.
Top chap
He must really worry about Roger Waters’ financial security then ;-D
What a charitable soul you are Ernie
his story is similar to poor old Steve Strange so I’m glad Marilyn is around to tell his quite intriguing story – he sounds in good sorts and good to hear he’s made his peace with Mr O’Dowd – his description of ‘the Alien years’ sounds incredibly bleak, I guess that’s reality for a lot of people but sounds like he’s found his way back. Good on yer Mazzer.
