As Five Live ploughed on with a rather tedious interview with David Starkey on the subject of the Magna Carta this morning, I considered it a pity at the time that they hadn’t approached the subject from the point of view of Tony Hancock!
It would have been much more interesting and probably more insightful.
The pubs stayed open until eleven in the summer because of magna carta. Runnymede where I was brought up, was considered a tourist area and hence the extended opening hours.
David Cameron goes to Runnymede to celebrate Magna Carta. Then pops back to Downing Street to continue plotting demise of the Human Rights Act. Satire is dead.
