Wow! I’ve just returned from a big screen showing. Absolutely bloody brilliant!
For me, this is easily one of the best blockbuster action movies I’ve ever enjoyed in a cinema. Wonderful direction and visually stunning, go and see it on a big screen now!
The entire cast throw themselves in with gusto andthere is so much gall, invention and complete insanity to behold. Steampunk types have found their Star Wars?
I’ll say no more.
Apologies for being not very eloquent and gushing about what might be regarded as popcorn fodder, but this really blew me away today. I’ve not felt like this about an action movie blockbuster in years.
The audience:
It was a matinee, so a sprinkling of folk sat quietly in the darkness. Bliss.
It made me think..
Blockbuster cinema can still deliver spectacular stories with élan that isn’t too bogged down with a required back knowledge of superhero universe and tedious macho* crap. *
In fact, the film has wound up the knuckle draggers for being too feminist in tone. Boo hoo, Comic Book Guy.

Bollocks, I’ve just seen this already has a thread in the Films section. Sorry all. I wish I knew how to just delete and edit things on this site.
Mad Max: Beyond Fury? Still a top night out though.
Carry on…

I love the Holloway Road Odeon. Proper 90s style cinema.

I saw Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back at Holloway Odeon. On their original releases and later on, 1982, as a double bill. I lived at Old Street, that was the nearest cinema for the ‘big’ films. Not really local!

I saw this a couple of nights ago. Agree with all you say ZM, brilliant film. It hits the ground running & doesnt let up for 2 hours.
The naughty step is calling me for what I am about to say, I think MMFR is better than any of the Star Wars films.
My film of the year so far, excellent stuff.

Just seen it. Brilliant film. Still remember seeing the fist one when it came out – #2 was the best and obvious preursor to this one. Matriarchy and Black and red flags eh? And the references to other Oz movies
