Everything I have heard of this group is wonderful. Recently Mimi (one half of the husband / wife core of the band) passed away. I’m staggered that they don’t have a recognised Greatest Hits, so I call on you to submit your favourites, please, that I might buy and compile my own.
I am sure there are some proper fans on here who can help here.
Cheers in advance, Massive

I literally have not heard a note of Low. They’ve completely passed me by but now reading all the platitudes I feel I need to catch up
Are they worth exploring, how would you describe them and where should I start?
MC Escher says
Think Twin Peaks soundtracks with some grungey guitars now and then.

They made my absolute favourite Christmas song, Just Like Christmas. It has to start or finish with that.
MC Escher says
Is it better than Long Way Round The Sea? Which is awesome on toast.
That makes me look like a hard core Low fan but it is one of the few I know of theirs.
Lunaman says
It’s certainly right up there. Like all Xmas songs they grow each year and I only heard it maybe five years ago. It’s certainly a ‘grower’ and it’s on my playlist.
Black Type says
The whole album has become a festive staple chez Type. In addition to the two mentioned, Little Drummer Boy is utterly sublime.

Their album “Double Negative” contains some very beautiful moments; these are worth wading through a lot of electronic noise to get to. Ultimately their beauty is highlighted when their ghostly lit presence pierce through the long dark passages.
I probably prefer a much earlier piece recorded by Low with Dirty Three, an atmospheric cover of Neil Young’s “Down By The River” from the 2001 “In The Fishtank” e.p.

The Invisible Way is a gorgeous album. Holy Ghost and Just Make It Stop would be on any Best Of playlist.

My love for Low was a brief and bracing immersion between 2011 and 2013; C’mon and The Invisible Way. I like ‘em lush and dreamy over edgy and experimental.
MC Escher says
I think that’s my sweet spot too, retro. Would any particular tracks make it onto this putative GH comp?

Try to Sleep and Witches are both belters from C’mon. (TtS might even have been used as link music on the telly, or maybe it just should have been?) Holy Ghost is probably my favourite from The Invisible Way, although the whole album is great.
If you like those, you’d probably also like The Great Destroyer. Head for Monkey and Silver Rider, both which were covered by Robert Plant.

Yes C’mon is probably my favourite album to – Especially me is a particular favourite

Will always have a soft spot for the Things We Lost In The Fire album.
Sunflowers and Dinosaur Act are probably the best known songs but all of it is great

To be honest, my mental boundaries between Low, Luna, Galaxie 500 and Damon and Naomi are pretty blurred. Slowcore is a genre I enjoy but almost by definition not much stands out from the pack.
As with Clem, Things We Lost In The Fire is the Low album I enjoy most.

Thanks for the replies, all. I’m looking forward to hearing all these when I get the chance 👍
