The wife and I were playing our YouTube music game last night. Put simply, one of us chooses a song and then the next choice has to be somehow connected. Last night it was the last letter of the artist had to be the first letter for the artist of the next song.
Anyway, most of the time we find ourselves using the official video of a song, maybe a TOTP performance. Occasionally though we find something a little more interesting. This happened last night. I needed to choose an artist beginning with ‘H’ and thought straight away of Howard Jones. What I found was a rather splendid performance between HJ and another 80s singer/songwriter. It’s a terrific performance and highlighted what a great song it actually is.

That’s a lovely clip. NK made me think of Jack Dee at the beginning.

Just a great song – here, with a full band

Funny I have always got confused between Howard Jones and Nik Kershaw despite any discernible reason

My struggle was I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. I remember hearing it on the radio and thinking with absolute certainty that it was Level 42 with a follow up to their single Living it Up, which featured “when the sun goes down” in the chorus. So when it appeared on TOTP and it wasn’t Level 42, I was a little bit in denial. I went to find my IPad to see what was happening, but then I remembered that they hadn’t been invented yet.

I always thought Marvin Gaye was at his happiest singing with Tammi Terrell. Here’s the extended version of You’re All I Need To Get By. Bliss.

Two beautiful Brazilian voices from different generations. The old lion and the lion cub sing about “The Lioness”
Staying in Brazil but going back to 1970, here are Vinicius de Moraes and Maria Creuza with Toquinho on guitar and backing vocals.
The three of them were in Buenos Aires on a promotional tour to boost coffee sale. What a ive album that turned out to be!

This is one of my favourite duets. The interplay of Southside Johnny & Tom Waits always reminds me of King Louis & Balloo.
