No! Not me!
I am referring of course to that divine denizen of the luvvie demi-monde, Steven Toast. If you don’t know him, he’s the spectacularly failed thespian who is the central character of Matt Berry’s hilarious series Toast of London. I treated myself to a boxset from the taxdodgers and it’s the perfect antidote to the glum vagaries of the Swedish winter.
One-liners galore. Grotesque characters. Surreal plotlines. Satirical digs at the theatrical world. And it all rattles along at a dashing pace. A magnificent comic creation.
Who’d want the uncertain life of an actor? The constant round of auditions. The lack of cash. The bizarre artistic compromises. The moments of crushing self-doubt.
Luckily for the rest of us, the lunatic world of showbiz is a rich vein for comedy.
Please, your favourite comedy series or films which deal with the lure of the limelight and the wacky and preposterous scenarios this can lead to.
