Hello all,
In February, my Family and I are spending a few days in the Smoke. We’re looking to see School of Rock in the sparkling West End. I liked the movie and my son’s is performing in his school’s version of it next year. My question is re snagging some tickets. Is it worth waiting until we’d down there and trying to get theme when we’re there (for a discounted price) or, given that we’ll need 4, is that a bit risky? What about outlets? Are some better than others? or am I best use the venue’s official box office?
On a similar matter, I have a pass to go out myself to a gig one night. Can someone send a link to a listing of gigs that I can filter my day/ genre. I’ve had a look at the various O2 venues for the nights I’m there but nothing particularly up my street. Or… any recommendation welcome. I’m there from the 11th to the 15th.
Thanks in advance.

If you want to be sure of 4 seats together get them in advance, particularly if missing the show or being split up would spoil your trip. If you want to take a punt there will probably be tickets on the day, particularly for mid week and matinee performances, at the half price ticket booth on Leicester Square (the only one I would recommend using).
Songkick is pretty good for looking up gigs https://www.songkick.com/metro_areas/24426-uk-london

Personally I would get them prior to your trip – from the theatre if possible as this should be cheaper.
Time Out( https://www.timeout.com/london ) is possibly your best bet forging listings but you may have to wait till nearer the date as I don’t know how far in advance they go. Otherwise look in the gig listings of your favourite genre of magazine. Or just google for gigs in the part of London you wish to visit.

Lastminute often has good deals on the big shows that have been on for a while – have a look here http://www.lastminute.com/entertainment/theatre/school-of-rock-the-musical/availability

Theatre advice looks sound enough…
In terms of gigs I’m sure there will be stuff nearer the time.
Without knowing where you’ll be and what floats your boat, it’s a bit of a shot in the dark….
The Guardian guide on Saturdays, (but it needs to be the london edition,) is normally fairly comprehensive, but covers the coming week.
I’d check out the Lexington, Oslo, Borderline, Isington, Moth Club, Union Chapel,100 club..although doubtless other AW folk will be able to offer venue suggetsions..
Have fun !

Thanks folks. The message is clear, get my tickets in advance if we want to sit together. Jeez these tickets aren’t cheap. Of course we’d like to be sat together but a pair of pair of tickets may be the way to go if there is over a hundred quid to be saved, so the half price hut may be the way we go. I wont go the whole hog and do 4 seperate tickets. I’m not that cheap :-).

It’s a weird paradox of the so-called “information age” that the information about gigs which used to be incredibly easy to find (buy Time Out and it listed just about everything) is now so much harder. There is no one place you can go to on the internet to see a complete list of all the gigs happening this week. The closest I’ve found is this:
http://www.londoninstereo.com/listings/
But even they miss out quite a bit.

Thanks Mathew – I’ll check it out.
