So…..long time hold outs Led Zep, finally cave in to ‘the Man’ is allowing Black Dog to be used to promote the Sony PlayStation4 game ‘Destiny’.
Conservatively, how much do we think it cost them to get Perce and Page to buckle? Seven figures?
And why? After 40 odd years holding off, why now?
Probably one of four bands where the decimation of physical product hasn’t really affected them.
Straying from the OP a little: not for an ad, but apparently Bob Dylan’s manager contacted the team behind Swedish/Danish TV crime series “The Bridge” out of the blue to tell them that they could use Bob’s music for very little money in the new series (which started yesterday) if they wanted to, so I guess he’s a fan.
With LZ, perhaps they think it’s the best way to reach the young generations?
Yes I think @locust is right, it’s a way to reach another generation.
Seven figures is probably right.
As for Dylan, music biz people tell me his management is very open and willing to discuss licensing, Bob just wants people to hear his music. This in contrast to a lot of publishers who actually get in the way of projects their clients would probably like to support.
Makes perfect sense to me. Gaming is the new rock and roll. A big difference to their music being used to sell a car, cornflakes or dog food,
