Well, this is a some good news. Scheduled for release in August, but brought forward “In light of the change to all our circumstances,” Marling wrote on Instagram, “ I saw no reason to hold back on something that, at the very least, might entertain, and, at its best, provide some union.”

Shaun Keaveney played a couple of acoustic versions of tracks she’d sent through on his 6 Music show yesterday (Thursday) about 3 hours 12 minutes into the show if anyone wants a listen on BBC Sounds.
Looking forward to this although I continue to wrestle with the dilemma of whether to order a copy online now or wait until the shops are open again.
On the one hand you’ve got Royal Mail employees in sorting offices complaining that they cannot do their jobs and maintain a safe distance from each other, but on the other hand I’d be supporting the likes of @davebigpicture who is trying to earn an honest crust during these unprecedented times.
I think it’s only digitally released at the moment anyway.
There’s a decent interview here, unusually thorough for the BBC website

She seems to be doomed to be an artist I never see. The first time I tried we had a holiday Italy booked, when she played Meltdown we have another gig that night, the Lump gigs were tiny, now she releases an album when there can’t be any gigs. Here’s hoping she plays when this is over.
She was on Later last night. This is pretty good.
She was. She is also on Adam Buxton’s latest podcast. She plays 3 songs off the new album during the chat
I much prefer Fetch The Bolt Cutters.
Been listening to both of them a lot these last few weeks and they’re great. The Marling is more produced, more MOR in sound than normal and I’m not sure yet how it compares with her very best – but it’s growing on me.
I think St. Cloud by Waxahatchee might be better than either of them.
But it’s nice to celebrate a good album, even if it’s not necessarily as good as some other album, without making it a competition [at least until the end of year poll 😉 ]
I confess, I haven’t given St. Cloud enough time yet. It’s a slow burner.
Tell you what this is really good. I mean really really good. I didn’t get on with LM in the early days but following insistent nagging from a mate I tried out the previous one ‘Semper Femina’ which from moderate ‘not bad’ first reaction it blossomed into one of my favourite albums of 2017. This one is even better. Produced by Ethan Johns, the songwriting is uniformly superb and her new mature confident voice quite gripping. Echoes of mid 70s Joni in there especially with her massed harmonies on some tracks. Is there a better singer songwriter operating in the UK right now ? I know I should write a proper review but this will have to do.
