What does it sound like?:
Well, it’s Kris Drever. It’s tuneful, with a hiunt of melancholic, and thoughtful lyrics.
It’s not a long reviuew. I’m writing tjis though a vitreal hemaorrage which is kind m,essing with what I can see.
This is the latest Drever, and it’s….
Well, it’s a typical Kris Drever. Which means, to my ears, that it’s great. The musicianship, the lyrics, the overall sound is just wonderful. I’ve had it on repeat the whole day, alongside the Broken Chanter release.
He’s not breaking new ground. But he doesn’t need to.
What does it all *mean*?
Good music will out.
Goes well with…
Smoky whisky
Release Date:
April 10

Lau. Kris Drever. Good music.

Thanks for the heads up. I was just listening to If Wishes were Horses yesterday. Your brief few words capture his essence admirably. His voice could charm the birds out of the trees.
How’s the eye? Seems like a review above and beyond the call of duty…
Ah, not great.
Off to Britain for 17 days to see and look after my parents for a bit, and then I suspect surgery.
Appreciate the kind thought
Yikes – best of luck with it!
I’ll look forward to that. Meet him a few times at a guitar workshop and after gigs – nice bloke. At the workshop someone asked him how he counts all the crazy time signatures in Lau and he thought for a minute as said “lairrrn the tune”.
Master at work.
That headline…not very Crever. 😉
I’m longing for something new from Lau but a new Kris Drever album will do for now.
I hope your eye(s) heal(s) up soon 2409.
Chris is playing tonight (Thursday 23rd April) at The Bear Club in Luton. £18
Annie Dressner is the support.

A nice friendly venue. Good sound.
They’re playing the rather excellent Storeys Field centre in Cambridge on Friday, but I’m going dancing with Mrs F, so will have to miss it.
Annie is a Cambridge local (or at least an adopted one – she’s originally from Brooklyn).
I have only belatedly got around to this, courtesy a good badgering by his agent, who is the same Annie Dressner supporting him at the gig above. I have to say I have always felt a little lukewarm about solo Drever, and thus, having listened a fair bit to his 2023 retrospective Best Of set, I felt there would be little to entice me. How wrong could I be? This album is a superlative piece of work, with the songs and his voice stronger than I ever recall. I’d love it were Lau to reconvene, but I look forward, in the interim, to his festival set, at Folk East, I think, with Cahalen Morrison, who plays banjo on this record.
What could be better than a bossy American agent, a role Annie is well qualified for? Before anyone complains, I’m pals with her hubby…
Say hi from me!
