I have just seen that Ray has confirmed that the Kinks are getting together again. Can’t seem to do the link to it – sorry!
What do you think? Too late for me I am afraid. What is the point now they are all well in their 70’s! Poor old Pete Quaife will need a miracle to get back on the stage anyway!
Junior Wells says
Havent heard a good word about anything Ray has done in yonks.
How could this possibly turn out well ?

His last few solo albums including Americana have been very well reviewed. Personally I liked Other People’s Lives very much, that was 2006 though.

Phobia, the last Kinks album, was krap. Glad if that’s not the final word on this mighty band.
dai says
Yes it was. I saw them on their last tour. They were playing a small hall where my company normally had it’s Christmas dinner. It was a lot of fun.
dai says
Not sure I want it to happen and I do wonder if Ray has checked with Dave before making any announcement!

Ray Davis was interviewed on Channel 4 News last night. I have to say, he looked and sounded a bit frail and I don’t recall him even mentioning his brother.

He periodically hints and then denies. No change here, I suspect.

It’s never going to happen. I was taken aback at how old & unwell Ray seemed in that Channel 4 interview. Having seen The Stones live last month and Macca on the telly, Ray is a different man. I have my theories, but I don’t want to play doctor based on a few internet clips.
Vincent says
It will. The attraction of a final 6 figure wedge in each member’s bank account plus the adulation for still being here whilst others fell will push it through.
SteveT says
His Americana album last year with the Jayhawks backing is excellent. Looking forward to part two next month.
Kid Dynamite says
It’s out on Friday, Steve. Which is no doubt completely unconnected with him popping up with this kind of reunion talk.

With the Kast Off Kinks (entirely made up of former members including the mighty Mick Avory thumping the tubs) going strong it’s down to the brothers to get up to speed. I remember a while back reading about Dave doing a gig in London and asking Ray (by text or email I think) if he’d come and do a number. Don’t think he got a reply but come the night as the band were about to start the last song (You Really Got Me?) Ray wanders on, sings the song, shakes Dave’s hand then disappears into the night. Dave had no idea if he’d turn up.
As previously reported here, more than once, the Kinks were the first band I ever saw live back in 1964, thus being the first band to contribute to the tinnitus which prevents me from seeing any reunion.

Here’s the clip, if you haven’t seen it.

Would come too late for poor old Jim Rodford.
Quote from Dave “Me and Ray have spoken about the possibility of us working on a new album. Ray has a few songs he wants to finish. I have 3 or 4 songs I’ve written with Ray. We’ve been talking about it for some time now. We haven’t discussed shows or anything else at the moment.”
Junior Wells says
Aussie band the Angels toured America with the Kinks. They were getting good reception from the audiences. As I recall the PA volume got softer and softer and less stage lighting till eventually Ray had them kicked off the tour.
I’m thinking Ray’s a bit of a prick.
