Im probably way behind the pace on this one (as per usual) but just discovered this band. A trio of young folk who are seemingly borrowing from all manner of guitar based music incl Fleetwood Mac, The Shads and even (mellow) Frank Zappa. Its all very tasteful, highly melodic and groovy as hell. Seems to have absolutely no relevance to anything going on at the moment but they are suddenly getting a lot of attention. Thats what I love about the music scene these days – so many strands covering all kinds of everything.

Heartily agree! Discovered them on DuCool’s Best of 2018 and I was bowled over.
Check out their Tiny Desk show. Magic!
Like spooky! Jump over to the Best of 18 thread
My first impressions are very positive. btw @Kaisfatdad I was looking to see if they had any dates near me (not yet, unless I go to Hyde Park to see them on the supporting bill for Florence and the Machine is the answer) and I see they will be in Stockholm at the end of this month https://www.songkick.com/artists/4558473-khruangbin/calendar
Thanks a lot for the tip @Gatz. DuCool also noticed that one and then to our great disappointment discovered that the gig was sold out. Bloody Södermalm hipsters with their finger on the pulse! There is obviously quite a buzz about them at the moment.
I may try to wheel and deal to get us on the guestlist.
I’m in two minds about this lot.
They tick a lot of boxes for me; jazzy, improvy, wear their splendidly obvious influences on their sleeves, have the musical chops to deliver in spades.
But……. there’s a nagging feeling that I probably know at least twenty talented folks who could also do this sort of stuff with ease, but who – while they can’t imagine that there’s a market for it in any case – would go mad with boredon after the first half hour of noodling anyway.
Having said that I’ve already invested in a couple of theirs (Con Todo… and The Universe…) and find them perfect as groovy background sounds for when I’m fettling a chair or otherwise doing, er, creative stuff in the man-cave (a.k.a. the garage).
Aye. I want to like them more than I actually do. Perfectly pleasant in the background but not much of it actually grabs me.
It occurs to me that @pencilsqueezer would possibly find them suitable for aural decoration whilst pencilling.
Weirdly enough Foxy I was listening to them only yesterday whilst drawing a sunflower.
Today I’m drawing something else whilst listening to something different.
It’s all wild and madly out of control.
A sunflower? Are you expecting a visit from Gauguin?
GoGo Gauguin. Definitely.
What’s New? 😉
I was called a traitor in the local shop yesterday because I was wearing a pin badge of the EU flag. Apart from that delightful encounter nowt.
I wish I could say, “Nevermore”.

My good friend Feedback gave me a compilation CD for my birthday with this cracker on it. Tremendous. You know them@vulpes-vulpes?
Indeed, there’s a great double CD comp avilable from Esoteric which I bought some while back. It doesn’t have this track, but plenty of fine other stuff. They were one of those bands I was only dimly aware of back in the day, when buying a new LP meant saving up the sponds for at least three weeks, and so they never managed to grab me sufficiently to the point where I ordered something from the hippies who ran Virgin Records in Plymouth at the time, and from whom all sorts of other wonders could be obtained given a two month waiting period and a lot of fiscal faith.
Discovered them following the Mojo article last month. Love them- melodic, funky, different.
I’ve loved them for a while now, there’s some story about how they worked out their songs over the internet, maybe the guitarist sending the bass player files?? Or the other way round? Anyway I find them refreshing, and not much music does that to me these days.
They’re coming to Sydney in March (I think) and I have bought two tickets. I told Mrs M about this the other day and while she is open to lots of music she sounded doubtful. To be continued…
But yeah they’re worth checking out
Peel played Burning Red Ivanhoe on Top Gear many moons ago. They are national treasures in Denmark.
There are some fab vintage clips on the Tube
Purple Hearts 1969
Groovy Danish TV clip from 1970
Remember this mighty thread? They’d have been a shoe in.
BRI are a fascinating band proper jazz soloists blended with a proper rock rhythm section – I remember a mate at school had their first album and I was much taken by this track at the time
Richard William’s excellent The Blue Moment blog brought them back into view for me a few years ago – a good potted overview

Hmmm I bet no other blog anywhere in the world has discussed BRI and Khruangbin on the same thread !!
That’s the title track on the Esoteric compilation I have; it’s a really good selection from what are otherwise relatively difficult to find CDs. Their newest album, from a few years back now, (which has the track that @Twang linked above) hasn’t been made available on CD yet, unfort.
Here are the details of that compilation.

Interesting to read that Peel signed them to Dandelion and co-produced their second album there. Nice quote from Williams on this page,

Out of the ashes of BRI came Secret Oyster.
In a slightly similar vein, I have just discovered Basque guitarist, Ibon Errazkin, whose latest album was very well-received in Spain. Give him a try: I think you might like his music.
He has a long, interesting career behind him.
https://elefant.com/bands/ibon-errazkin/biography
He started his career with this fab pop combo: Aventuras de Kirlian who I stumbled across a couple of days ago.
I love Jone Gabarain’s languid vocals. Big in the Basque Country, they broke up in 1989.
That reminded me of The Bees, possibly the best band to come out of the Isle of Wight and, for a while, Michael Kiwanuka’s backing band.
Chicken Payback:
Deviating for a moment, how about a vintage prog rock from the Basque Country: Itoiz?
Not something you hear every day!
This thread got me thinking about Vini Reilly and the Durutti Column. Always a pleasure!
This thread is pleasantly bonkers but with the last Durutti vid Kai has brought it round in a nice circle as this definitely has some similar qualities to Khruangbin.
Where shall we take it now ? Hh yes this will do nicely….

LOL, what a hoot that video is. Please tell me it is meant to be taking the piss?
Very possibly – I believe the album ( Jassbusters) may be a soundtrack ?
