So hard to call. Ring rust for both; Brook’s busted eye sockets; Khan’s glass chin; Brook’s movement and power shots; Khan’s fast hands.
The old cliche of boxers ageing during especially tough fights holds true for both of them (maybe more so for Brook – being almost blinded isn’t something you just get over), so again, difficult to calculate who’ll win this one. I’d like Brook to be victorious, as I’ve always liked the Ingle gym and the way Brendan genuinely made it a community location. One time I was up there doing a piece for a magazine, and the photographer, a lovely fellow called Hugo Dixon, sadly no longer with us, exclaimed ‘Gosh, those punches are whistling through the air like bullets!’ Brendan Ingle, without missing a beat, announced to the assembled young pugilists ‘These gentlemen are from London. It’s a long way away’.
Never understood the attraction of boxing aka beating a bloke senseless. Why don’t they just sit down with a nice cup of tea and in the end agree to disagree?
Just finished watching it. What a great fight. The referee stopped it about three seconds after I said Khan’s corner should be pulling him out. Great performance by Brook. I was generous and gave Khan one round, but for all his fast flurries, most were hitting fresh air. A brave performance from him though, as he was getting beaten up. That first round was almost a 10-8, Brook was so dominant.
Khan looked petrified on his ring walk. Three years out of the ring is a long time at his age. And I’ve never seen someone change gloves in the ring before. That could so easily have backfired. But let’s hope they both hang up their gloves now. Khan can’t be taking any more punishment like that and I think Eubank would be too much for Brook. It would be a big money spinner for him though, so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind taking a few punches for a couple of million quid.
But it was a great fight and those first two rounds were electric. Great to see Natasha Jonas blow away her opponent to finally win a world belt. I might have got something in my eye during her post fight interview.
They don’t seem to like each other do they?
Let’s hope it doesn’t descend into fisticuffs.
That picture is either “Go awn, give us a kiss” or “Do you like the smell of my new mouthwash?”
What about Harry Trubshaw of the medical corps?

Money for old rope for both of them.
Good luck to them for doing it.
‘this a pity 2 men have to injure each other for money and a braying mob.

They wouldn’t be able to hold the cups with those gloves on.
I hope you had money on that prediction.
I did indeed!
Excellent.

Brook won’t be able to resist a fight with Eubank. He’ll probably get walloped and then retire, when the right thing to do is call it a day now.
Yep, and the way Eubank fights it’ll be 12 rounds of percussive rather than concussive punching, which really won’t be good for those eyes.
