Just a reminder that one of the best comedies of the last few years returns to our screens tonight … ‘This Country’ created by the wonderful Daisy May and Charlie Cooper
I just think it’s brilliantly observed and also incredibly funny.
Sadly this is to be the final series but they will both go on to bigger and better things
Oh yes! I meant to bring this up. One of my favourite comedies of recent years. Laugh out loud funny but with genuine heart in the middle of it.
Sad to learn that one of the co stars (“Slugs”) died last year. He was a natural, and perfectly cast.
Careful though – I remember discussing This Country on the Afterword before, and if I remember correctly some people on here felt it was a bit offensive to the actual residents of the Cotswolds. I totally get that, and I’ve felt similar things about Glasgow comedies in the past (my locale) like Rab C Nesbitt. For what it’s worth, I think the show is driven by love of its subjects, not from a desire to offend.
As a resident of the Cotswold’s myself and having grown up in the same area it is spot on
No one I know takes offence, they know what life is like here
I hope very much that the Vicar, the Rev. Francis Seaton, will be present and correct for this third and final series. He only has to appear on screen and I start laughing in anticipation…
.. And he was indeed in last night’s episode! Yes, he’s hilarious. I especially loved the episode where Kerry and Kurtan found he used to be in a band.
Went to a screening last month with hilarious Q&A afterwards and Daisy said that this series was v much about the Rev’s journey. Two eps we saw were their usual high standard
Thanks for this heads up: I had never heard of and we started from s1 last night. Wonderfully observed inconsequentiality. The idea of having to have a bad tattoo really made me smile.
