Author:Kate Mossman
Those of us who came here from the Word magazine will remember the excellent Kate Mossman’s writing. It was nice to see her pop up in the Guardian today. Almost inevitably it concerns Queen, who she was obsessed with as a child.
Kate is now Arts Editor on the New Statesman, which I don’t read but which I am now tempted to try again after several friends have recommended it.
Apparantly she has a new book coming out, which I may well explore too.

One thing you’ve learned
Kate doesn’t listen to Queen bery often these days!
For some reason the link didn’t appear above.,..

I read the title of the OP too quickly at first.
“Kate Moss on Queen …” Oh. OK, let’s have a look.
I will have a look at the Guardian article anyway. Kate Mossman did some very enjoyable programmes on Radio 4 a few years ago.
It just occurs to me that, of course, it could have been historical novelist Kate Mosse on Queen (or even on “the Queen”).
I subscribe to the NS. Excellent content but the app is annoyingly unreliable and support is zero. They just don’t answer. Hadn’t noticed Kate is there.
TFK is often in the NS – I am always pleased to see her by-line, and even if the artist she’s talking about is not on my personal playlist, she always has interesting things to say about their work.
I’m a print subscriber to the NS – never look at their digital content at all – and I can report that the subs customer support function is equally dire!
She’s on the latest Word podcast talking about her new book and giving her bizarre and funny Kevin Ayers story another airing.
The one where her friend advised her to wear her strongest knickers?
She has some interesting perspectives on the 90s music scene.
And of course features on recent Word in your ear podcast
Young women are attracted to good looking men.
Roger Taylor was really good looking, and remarkably young, years after his initial fame.
Men don’t get this, especially if they’re not on an indie label. Women do.
I’ll ask one tomorrow (a woman or, if I can’t locate one, a hatstand… certainly not a man) and get back to you.
Eh?
Do you, Mr Jones?
That’s not how it works.
First you love the music, then the love of that music makes you try very hard to imagine that the artist is attractive.
Then you hear him say some dumb shit in an interview, go “Ewww” and go back to just loving the music.
Signed: A woman.
Glad you don’t erase the work from your sphere of interest along with the artist; I fear that way lies a (much) short(er) playlist.
