Kaisfatdad’s “Man’s Best Friend – Songs About Dogs” Thread

In a private email, Kaisfatdad confesses to feeling “a bit down in the dumps” about certain comments levelled at his blogging technique, some of which I am guilty of. Which some of I am guilty. Of. It’s not nice to see a grown man cry, especially by email, and I found myself regretting all the cheap jibes I made*. K’s posts are a staple feature of the blog, and very popular, and I for one miss them. In an attempt to lure him back, I’m stealing an idea he had “on the back burner”, in the hope that the resultant flurry of internet activity will lure him back to curate what is essentially his thread.

So – let’s be having your songs about man’s best friend!

    • Oooh Neil! (And you, Neil). You beat me to it. Despite my devotion to All Things Finn, I have always found this one a bit toe-curling. Maybe because it’s just about the only Neil Finn song that tells a story in an unambiguous, linear way. Most of his lyrics are rather oblique – this song has always sounded a bit trite. I mean, I’ve got a dog and all, but . . . . oh well, never mind.

  27. Everyone Says “Hi” is Sir Dave’s poppermost toon of the 21st Century. Nice tune ‘n’ all, but what really raises it above the competition is that last line –
    “…And your big fat dog”

Congrats on a very entertaining thread about music about dogs, though. Unfortunately, I am attending the Herring Festival in Snøttgøbblerståd so am unable to help out!”

    My pathetic excuse is that we’ve just bought a little wooden cabin in the middle of nowhere on Öland and I’ve been dashing around buying essential things like saucepans, a lawnmower and a ginormous trampoline.

    • I wasn’t so far off, was I?

      Saucepans, check. Lawnmower … well, I suppose so. What kind of woods are these where you need a lawnmower? But, check. Trampoline … trampoline? TRAMPOLINE??!!

      That’s not the third thing I’d have sourced for my away-from-it-all nudist spa retreat, but … whatever gets you through the long, arctic night.

  67. In a private email from Kaisfatdad in his Swedish-style nudist hideaway trampoline park, he suggests the Blue Oyster Cult’s “Baby Ice Dog” and is surprised we’ve got so far down the thread without it being posted yet. Thanks, K! Keep ’em bouncing!

  87. Surprised to get this far down the thread to find this antipodean ( aah think I have found the reason) this antipodean classic has not made the list.

    The great Sydney band the Hoodoo Gurus had a hit with this rather excellent song My Girl ,about a greyhound.
