Just a reminder that the best album of the year, properly this century was released yesterday.
It really is a joy from start to finish and clear proof that when David Bowie tells you to get the band back together it’s wise to follow his words.

Listening right now on Spotify – its a banger!!
Also listening on Spotify. Not doing much for me so far I am afraid. Fairly derivative Talking Heads like stuff.
Ok a little harsh. Some of it is great, also getting a Gang of Four vibe from it.
Wasn’t all that for me on first listen.
Didn’t they split up about 10 minutes ago and now they’re back? They are the NYC electro-rock Status Quo.
I gave it An hour or so my life……and it was shyte. Sorry, if you enjoy it, good for you.
I was disappointed, because after reading a couple of reviews I was expecting more. Talking Heads were so much better at this. Album of the Century? It’s not even the album of this morning. OOAA.
Genuine question: when someone posts an “I’ve discovered this and think it’s brilliant” thread, is there any point in responding “no, it’s shit”?
I get that we all have different opinions, but if all someone is doing is offering enthusiasm (rather than posting a question/jumping off point for discussion, a la “Status Quo: are they really as good as people always say”?) isn’t this just chip pissing? And doesn’t silence achieve the same result at a lower cost of effort and twice the politeness?
Opinions are lovely, but I feel Iike if I jumped in with “no, it’s shit” every time there was a bit of music on the blog I don’t much care for you’d all quite rightly beat me to death by Xmas.
Just a thought.
If one or two people dissent from someone’s enthusiasm, that’s fair enough I think. We wouldn’t really want sugary niceness wall-to-wall here.
After a little bit of healthy dissent though, any more does indeed seem like pointless chip-pissing.
Well, you can fuck off for starters…
That’s it.
Flounce!

I’m back! Did you miss me?
Anything exciting while I was away?
Thought not. This blog’s going to the dogs, I tell yer..
I’ve made the mistake of piling in with a counter-opinion on occasion and been accused of snarky trolling, chip-pissing, turd-dropping, and received the usual amateur psychological analysis from people who think they have a deep insight into your character from the comments you leave on a music forum. If people don’t like Rod Stewart (eg) it’s their sad loss, I reckon. But I wouldn’t want them to hold back. I think it’s perfectly okay to give any opinion on any piece of music, given that’s a large part of the purpose of this blog. But out of consideration for the delicate, easily-bruised souls here, I withhold my opinion that this is junk, and wouldn’t be album of the year if it was the only album to be released that year.
Wotcha, HP.
To clarify, I’m not proposing some sort of blog-wide safe space, where we can all sleep easy in our little beds knowing that no one will challenge our delicate sensibilities, and I’m also not aiming the comment above at anyone in particular (apart from Mike, who can fuck off for starters).
I’m talking specifically about this type of post – very short, not much said, just “I think this is really good, you might like it too – here’s a clip”.
I always go back to the “blog as virtual bar” theory, tortured as it may be. If someone held court in the centre of the pub and said “LCD Soundsystem are the greatest band in human history”, I might feel able to jump in and say “are they bollocks”, because I’d assume they were primed for a bit of a debate. However, if I heard someone say “I really like the new LCD Soundsystem record” would I jump into the conversation with “What a load of old cack”? I dunno, probably not. Particularly if I wasn’t expanding on why. It just seems a bit anti-social to me – someone is just trying to spread the love, why put downs on it?
Perhaps Arch invited it on this occasion with his “greatest album of the century” tag, but ultimately a lot of these types of posts are just people trying to share music, and it feels a little reductive if their reward is a relatively abrupt “it’s shit”. I do wonder if it takes a bit of the joy out of the thread.
Anyway, people can do what they like (even you, despite my best efforts), I’m just thinking out loud. FWIW, I don’t much care for the new LCD Soundsystem either. I would also add that you generally pile in with sufficient elan to make the experience a pleasure bordering on high eroticism.
I love you, Bing. Sure, you’ve got the body. The hard, rippling muscles, the easy panther-like grace, the boyish grin. But [clenches fist, grits teeth] you’ve got a mind. You can think. Let people talk. Small people with small lives.
We will always have Dudley, the summer of ’81.
Always.

I said this album was ‘shyte’ and I stand by that opinion. I have since posting my comment listened to the album twice. I am more convinced that it is ‘shyte’, that is my opinion as I stated on my original post.
@Arch_Stanton obviously loves this album and that is good, I doubt if he expected everyone to like the track/album. I was interested in what LCD Soundsystem had to offer and what James Murphy was about. With a title like American Dream’ I expected to be knocked out by ‘new’ (to me) music. Instead all I hear is a jumble of sounds I have heard in more sublime creations by more sublime artists.
I was disappointed having really tried to ‘get’ the album. It’s not for me and by saying I thought it was ‘shyte’, this was not a rebuke to Arch, it was my honest reaction to the album.
That’s pissed Me off Baron as I just took delivery of it and will listen this am on way down to Kent. You could be completely wrong of course – it woildnt be first time.
…and will not be the last time.
I love LCD Soundsystem and was hooked on this on the first listen, which I don’t think is how I felt with their previous albums. I think it’s their best.
Heard one track in Fopp, Manchester this afternoon. Very krautrocky indie schmindy , very catchy. Will have to investigate further.
It is top. I reckon you can hear his Joy Division/New Order influences on this one more than his previous ones.
The track from the OP is the standout for me. Great stuff.
