July Wordle

Black Celebration has set his alarm for one minute past midnight on the 1st July. Mike and Junior will be waking up a few hours later, mashie niblicks oiled and balls sparkling white. Everyone else, try and get some rest. The Big Day approaches.

In my role as Official Scorer, I should mention a couple of Rule Changes:
Anybody who scores more than one eagle per round is instantly disqualified
Leedsboy must start every hole with ZAKAH

Apart from that, best of luck and may the best player win (as long as it’s me)

    • I’m finding all these threes insufferable (I’ll forgive Black Celebration’s two, he deserves it). I know, I know, pick the least likely but c’mon I’m not even sure I knew how to spell today’s answer let alone guess it in three
      Hold on, news coming through on my earpiece – “What’s that you say? Right, couldn’t agree more. Penalise the smartarses two strokes for being smartarses? Righto, wilco. Over and out.”

  34. Anybody interested in the scores with three holes left to play? No, me neither.

    I’ll just say that Clive is ridiculously, preposterously good and Junior is a mere 21 shots away.

    We’re all very proud of Black Celebration but he needs to be very careful – he’s the only player with two eagles this round , one more and he will be banned sine die.

  35. Even allowing for the fact I’m using GRRRL as my starter, I’m convinced this is one of our hardest courses yet. So it’s mightily impressive (or frightening) that 7 players are currently under par after 15 (and, round of surprised applause here, – Black Celeb is one of them!)

    I’m not sure what drugs Clive is on, but one eagle, 6 birdies and not one single bogey suggests they are working (frighteningly) well. 2 shots in the lead at -8.

    Pyramid may regret the bogey on 8, it may well cost him the trophy

    Leedsboy is perhaps the main threat as his game comes back together. However, he may well have left his charge too late. 4 under where he is joined by good old badartdog.

    Mikethep survived (only just) the identity parade involving his left bum cheek and is currently -3.

    In the comfort of mid-table, Plumb and Jim are +1, Steve T +2, Cheshire C +3 and Yorkio +4.

    Flirting with danger are Bamber +6, and fortuneight at +7.

    Thanking their lucky stars that JW is playing, Sound hound, Paul H and the mighty LoW all share +8

    A further shot away is MaxDog on +9

    Gentlemen, give it up for the wonder that is Junior Wells at +13!! I reckon that if GRRRL plays it’s part it’s just possible that I can snatch Spoonie from his feeble grasp. Stranger things have happened….

  72. One hole left – two at the top battling it out tomorrow, mano a mano. Leedsboy and Badartdog have left it too late for gold but scrapping away for bronze.

    Down in the murky depths, fortuneight despite his recent best efforts has left his charge too late. – JW is, as we speak, hanging out the bunting ready for Spoonie’s return.

  73. I’ve forgotten about Spoonie’s diet. Any allergies? Wouldnt want to be dipping him into a jar of peanut butter without checking.

    A completely new one for me – only stumbled on it through trial and error. I was very pleased with myself for line 3 – thought it was correct for sure.

  92. As Trump Force One taxis down the runway, we turn our attention to the small stage set behind the Gents Toilets where a “crowd” has waited patiently for what seems forever.

    The MC takes the stage:

    “As most of you know by now, Clive is our champion!” Cue polite, almost silent clapping. The MC continues – “Never in the history of our esteemed competition has any player scored like this. 10 pars, 7 birdies, one eagle and not ONE bogey!! 9 under par!! I must stress here that Clive has passed each and every drug test, and there were many, so all we can do is stand back and admire. Well played, Clive!”

    A mere one stroke away, shyly turning his head away from the flashing cameras, is Pyramid. One bogey at the eighth in the end proved his downfall. 8 under par.

    Showing he still has what it takes to win (?), Leedsboy takes the bronze medal at 6 under.

    Badartdog claims to have had a bad month yet claimed 4th place with a highly creditable 4 under

    Carl and mikethep at 3 under must feel highly pleased.

    SteveT, subsequently disqualified and disbarred re his not one, not two but THREE
    eagles, recorded a now meaningless score of 1 under. We wish him well with whatever lies ahead in his future.

    Black Celeb and the C Cat cemented their roles as honest midfield toilers at +1

    Plumb +2, Jim +4, Bamber +5, and Yorkio +6 might, frankly, not well have bothered with July.

    Real drama as MaxDog and GRRRL Power nod at each other in a manly, respectful fashion and tie at +7

    Paul H stumbled in at +8 whilst sound hound and fortuneight embarrassed not only themselves but all their friends (?) and family at +11

    But, c’mon, put your hands together for our favourite (?) AWer, Junior Wells !! One birdie, 7 pars, 5 bogeys, 3 double bogeys and , count ’em, 2 wipe outs! Bow your heads and marvel in his glory!!

  93. Something has just popped up on Truth Social.

    EVERYONE, including some real close friends of mine (of which I have many) say that Lodey did a great job, a GREAT job! Also Congratulations to Clive on his second place but he was no match to my -36 score, which is the BEST Wordle tournament performance the world has ever seen! I had to make my plays under tight security, as I’m sure you all understand!!!
