The movie is not a history lesson, and doesn’t attempt to tell the full story (whatever that is) – it’s no coincidence that it is labelled “…part fever dream”.
Yes, I know that. But why? Why make a bullshit documentary? Heaps of people, despite the disclaimer, take it as fact. Why not just give recognition to those deserving of it?
Why? Because they can. (And someone somewhere’s paying for it…)
It’s what’s called artistic decisions I guess.
And I think the “Desire/Renaldo & Clara” era is not exactly un-documented either.
Thanks Junes, I’m going through a bit of a Dylan binge-fest at the moment. I’m still getting my recent NY trip out of my system.
Just finished reading David Hadju’s excellent ‘Positively 4th Street’ about Dylan/Joan/Mimi/Farina and now onto Daniel Epstein’s ‘The Ballad of Bob Dylan’ which is equally insightful about that whole Greenwich Village scene and includes later episodes as well (really good on the music and lyrics). I’m also re-watching No Direction Home right now.
Lack of recognition for Levy in the Scorsese movie I meant.

So bookmarking this for later.
Yep that’s a binge. Ian Bell’s books are my favourites.
