Gail Tilsley-Platt-Whatever too. And Arlene Foster, presumably for her period is the Minister For Not Listening to People.
I feel like BJ has selected these people by just randomly going through an old copy of the Radio Times.
Nothing for Ken Morse?

Coincidentally, as Jubilee celebrations begin in Britain, today is a national holiday in Italy to celebrate the anniversary of it kicking out the monarchy and becoming a republic.
I nominate Sue Jones-Davies, for being in one of my favourite comedy films (Life of Brian), in one of my favourite television series (Brideshead Revisited), on one of my favourite albums (Rock Follies of ’77) and being mayor of Aberystwyth.
I also nominate Terence Davies for making two of my favourite films (Distant Voices, Still Lives and The Long Day Closes).
In fact, while I’m at it, I’ll also nominate Russell T Davies for reviving Doctor Who and making it good for a while, for Years and Years (the television series, not the band with Olly Alexander in it) and for It’s A Sin (the television series with Olly Alexander in it).
Oh, what the hell, I’ll also nominate Dickie Davies for whatever it was he used to do and for still having a moustache.
Here’s Sue Jones-Davies, singing an apprproprate song:

Alfreda Benge, Artist & lyricist.
For quietly getting on with being Robert Wyatt’s wife, carer, lyricist and album cover artist for the past 48 years.
.
Also Jah Wobble, for being an all-round proper geezer while teaching us that the bass is the king of the musical jungle.

I would have thought Alfie’s died-in-the-wool Stalinist husband might have a few words to say about her taking a gong from Her Maj. He might even ask if it’s worth it…

She could flog it to pay for a bicycle on the boy’s birthday.
Mike_H says
Unlikely to see the boy Robert on a bicycle these days.

I’d nominate Monty Don for a knighthood to add to his OBE, for being a stylish and inspirational gardener, services to dogs, and most of all for simply not being Titchmarsh. Also Ian Hislop for years of service to puncturing pomposity, hypocrisy and self aggrandisement. Oh, and Sue Perkins for just being generally funny, a good egg and making me laugh.
hubert rawlinson says
I can say now that I’ve been made an Earl to go along with my OBE. I’m now an earlobe.
Razor Boy says
Got to be John Joseph Lydon for his services to culture and anarchy (back in the day)
Lord Lydon in the House would stir it all up a bit !
Rigid Digit says
Services to contrariness.
There is no one more contrary than Johnny L.
Black Type says
Yes there is.

It’s the 80th Anniversary of the birth of Curtis Mayfield tomorrow, and there’s bunting all down our street.

Starmer wants to nip the bud any Red Wedge-type endorsement at the next election.
I reckon every indie/Madonna/Springsteen/Weller vote of confidence is worth 50,000 votes for the right.
Madonna piping up was the kiss of death for Hillary Clinton.
Put your cross in the box on the day, do not tell anyone who you’re going to vote for, on no account start singing!

And it was needless too, because the Queen said it about someone who is white! The Queen referring to someone as being like a gorilla was only half of what she said, the second half being that he had a short body but very long arms.

Fuck all happening in Canada except Ontario elections today. Guess we are on the way to being a republic

Surprised to find that support for the institution of the monarchy now stands at just under 60% across the UK. It will be interesting to see how much of that survives once her maj goes to the great balcony in the sky. The heir is a pretty divisive figure.
Speaking of which….
