Great news, great news – it seems the final night on John McLaughlin’s farewell tour of the US last November/December was recorded after all… Midway through, a band member had told me there were no plans to record any of the dates. For those unfamiliar with the tale, John made his name soon after moving to the US in 1969 – after a 10-year career below the radar in Britain (if *only* someone would write a book or two about all that).
In 2017, living in Europe, he decided he didn’t need the bother of all the form-filling required to tour America these days and announced this ‘farewell USA’ tour, co-headlined with Jimmy Herring’s band. After two separate sets, each band joined for a third set of Mahavishnu Orchestra (1971-75) music, with added violinist – the first time John has played most of this stuff since the 70s. Here’s a taster video and the website of his label – the CD available for pre-ordering now for a mere $12.99 + no postage to the UK! Double vinyl also available.

Ace. Funny how he has more hair now than he did in the early 1970s.
12 bucks to ship to UK.
Less than £20 all in for the CD.
Still a bargain.
You swine.
You misunderstand, Vulp – there is NO postage to ship to the UK. So that’s $12.99 all-in.
Here’s my fave clip from the tour:
Don’t think so:

I will be getting this – a great live artefact of Mahavishnu finest period.
Who is the violinist as a matter of interest?
Jim Lea
…wears a wig, McL not.
Interview in the new Mojo.
With Vulpes, about US postage issues?
