I hate to do this but it’s being reported Jóhann Jóhannsson has passed away at the far too young age of 48, He was a stunning artist and was one of my favourite composers of modern classical and soundtracks.

This is awful news. He really was a wonderful composer! Not many would write a piece based on an IBM printer manual. RIP
Yes it would sadly appear to be official, given it’s on the BBC site:

I discovered him fairly recently, through the heart-achingly beautiful but immensely sad Fordlandia. I’ve also been hugely enjoying Orphee recently which is worth your time too:
He seemed to specialise in that thing I’m a sucker for, gentle, repetitive heart-tugging melodies, with full-bodied orchestration and never slipping into twee territory.
This isn’t good news: I only latched on to him a year or so ago, with Orphee in my best of 2016.
That’s terrible news. When I saw the heading of the thread I thought oh good, has he got a new album coming out. Only been listening to his music since I saw Orphee popping up in a few end of year lists on here, but ir led to me searching out his other music and similar artists like Olafur Arnalds.
It was very sad news. I’ve been listening to IBM 1401… and Fordlândia this morning. Both pieces are suitably sombre.
I first got into Jóhann Jóhannsson’s music after reading a review of IBM 1401 in a Swedish paper and then buying the album. What capivating pieces they were! Beautiful sounds. Over the years I acquired Fordlandia, The Miners’ Hymns, And In The Endless Pause There Came The Sound Of Bees and the staggering “Orphée”, which seemed to bring the quiet Icelander to a new level of public attention. I even managed to see him live once, although one felt that live performance on stage wasn’t really his favourite milieu.
Anyway, Jóhann – rest easy, and takk fyrir for all the music you left behind.
Really sad news. I got some of his albums via my eMusic subscription and liked them a lot. I will dig them out and listen again. Fordlandia is lovely.
