After a glowing review in this months Mojo about how this Touareg bands guitarist ‘unknowingly’ was channelling the sprit of Hendrix in his desert blues performances thought I’d check it out. The album itself isn’t yet on Tidal, my choice for streaming, but earlier ones are well worth a listen, and this live performance in a yard(?) shows what the reviewer is talking about. Loving the kids reactions when the beat drops (I believe that’s what the yoof call it). Will be playing more for the rest of the day, bringing some sunshine to a dismal Suffolk day!

‘Tis great, and the album is great. They played Cambridge not long ago, in a nightclub off the market square – an odd choice of venue for a gig. I didn’t go.
Check out Tinariwen if you don’t already know them, and the Andy Kershaw podcast for lots more sunshine-inducing “world” music.
If the album you refer to is Afrique Refait, it is on Tidal now.
I was lucky to catch him and band live on a sunny afternoon in Wales earlier his year.
A little research on my part suggests your post refers to the Niger EPs that are lightly reviewed in Mojo this month and not the 2022 album I am currently playing.
Niger EP Vol 1 is on Tidal now.
Tinariwen were great this august at Victoria Park, having seemed a bit tired when I first caught them in 2016.
I also rate Tamikrest and Imarhan.
Mdou Moctar are far superior to Tinirawen IMHO – I have 3 of the albums which are all excellent – I have been desperately trying to locate the Desert Sessions live album on Rough Trade but it is really hard to find except for silly money at Discogs.
One day. And yes the guitar is the closest to Hrndrix of any current contenders.

Big fan of both Tamikrest and Tinariwen. Check out Bombino if desert blues is your thing.
I have one of the Bombino albums which I really like.
Still prefer Mdou Moctar which to my ears is dirtier and more exciting.
Ditto the first couple of Tinariwen albums.
Frustratingly the lead giy in Tinariwen aint a fan of travelling. Each tour of Oz has seemed to have progressively fewer of the core band so that what we get is Tinariwen lite.
IMO Bombino is a bit lite too
Will explore Mdou Moctar
Something a bit more Middle Eastern, this by Al-Qasar (they describe their music as “Arabian fuzz”) was on the latest Andy Kershaw podcast. I bought the LP. Guests include Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth) and Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys).
