The cover image has come on for a bit* of stick since it was first announced (and rightly so – the utter state of them), but the Martin Freeman/Eddie Piller-compilled Jazz On The Corner comp looks very good, and the double vinyl version is currently up for pre-order for £9.99 on you know where, as opposed to the CD version at over £15, which only boasts an additional three tracks.
As you were.
*well alright a lot
I mean, he’s literally stroking his chin. The Wellend.
An album with Martin Freeman on the cover? I’d rather not.
What would the neighbours say?
If someone with a working Imgur account wants to post a pic of the album cover for us all to feast our eyes on, it would be greatly appreciated.
Didn’t need an imgur account, but I’ll post this for you @minibreakfast.
Ta Hubes. I can’t get Imgur to do anything.
Just opened Imgur and opened a new post. Added image and copied the link. @minibreakfast
Gatefold below, though the image disappeared when I added a comment. Most odd
Can’t do it on the Kindle. Will try laptop:
Harry Enfield on the left?
Ave an ^
Elton surely?
I`ve ordered this but I think I`ll give the grandkids some brushes and paint and let them re-design the cover.
I could redesign it myself with a biro. The result will not be anatomically correct, but will nonetheless be accurate.
Those old skills never leave you.
There is also a gatefold. Be warned.
Sweet jesus! The music I’d be up for but the album cover is smug. Perhaps we need him to go on Sunday Brunch and let Tim Lovejoy take the piss out of him. I’m sure he’s been waiting to get Freeman back all these years after the Ramones tee shirt interview.
You know when people who are doing their dream job say “I’m waiting for someone to tap me on the shoulder and say, hey, Martin – (other Christian names are available) – it’s all been a joke.”
Why on earth hasn’t anyone tapped Martin Freeman on the shoulder yet?
I mean, no offence, but he even, in a series of two (with Sparks, I kid you not), got to curate a Motown CD a few years ago!
Can we talk about Martin’s trousers now? (Or whoever’s they are, because they’re much too short.)
Half-masts are fashionable now. God help us.
They are, but his look like they’ve either shrunk in the wash or been nicked off someone else’s whirly line.
Shite loafers too.
The guy sitting down is Eddie Piller who is one of the good guys, despite being unable to appreciate that youth subcultures, in this case mod, are for the youth.
The ‘Mod Dad’ thing is almost as pitiable as middle aged teds in the ’70s.
Avoiding the vinly crowd, and why wouldn’t anyone?, could just buy this month’s Mojo (The Who cover) with a free 15-track CD every bit as good as the track-listing above and with much better artwork.
Answering one’s own post – never great …
… but can I just thank the beard with the record bag across his shoulder in a Cornish town this afternoon who on spying a vinly quickly got out his mobile phone to find out its “worth” on eBay (presumably nothing as he put it back) only for me to jump in and score a Dick Dale CD on Rhino.
Thank you, Sir, your greed and ignorance has greatly enhanced my record collection!
What’s not to love about 60s dodgers?
I found that Mojo on my doormat this evening when coming back after a few days away. I haven’t opened the magazine but the CD is on its third spin and it is f’ing awesome!!!
[I may have had a gin or two]
Mojo arrived yesterday, not a great issue (obviously a quiet month as Uncut also looks poor,) but CD is ready for a play, tracklisting does look impressive.
Ahem. My mojo is missing. Is it the one with a Mark E Smith tribute ?
Hands in pockets, stroking chins… can’t we all just go “Fuck this!” and go back to smoking?
It could be worse. There could be beards and polo necks.
On that Mojo “Big Sensations”/The Who CD, it is neither overly familiar (did anyone read the tosh David Hepworth was spouting about music radio in the Radio Times last week?) and nor is it ridiculously obscure for obscurity’s sake.
It is just shy of 35 minutes long – the optimum length for an album – and, if you don’t get it with the magazine, as with all such free CDs it’ll be a shoe-in for a pound/£1.50 in the Oxy in the next few weeks.
I’ll be amazed if there’s anything better, let alone better value, at Record Store Day.
It’ll almost certainly be my “Reissue of 2018.”
Mojo have had a good little run of cover discs lately. Definitely stepped up a gear.
Decent packaging too, now that they’ve finally ditched those jewel cases.
I can confirm that this is an exceptionally good compilation, and a beautiful pressing to boot. Also the autorip is the full CD compliment of tracks, even if you buy the vinly.
A brown paper bag is essential for the sleeve, though.
Well, they’ve done it again, although the photo isn’t *quite* as bad this time:

Don’t Change Horses… as heard on the mighty Warner Brothers music sampler with Bugs Bunny on the front (a much better fuckin’ cover than this).
Here it is. 59 of your Earth pennies.

And given that the vinly, no doubt “curated” by the chuckle brothers, is priced at £22, you could just buy the latest issue of Mojo with an absolute “no-filler” (mid-1990s soul, I ask you!) 15-track Detroit Soul compilation.
I think that they went for the risible look knowingly and intentionally
Does this make me very cynical or very naive?
Are they ripping the piss out of vinyl buyers? I think so.
It certainly adds to the gaiety of the nation.
It’s essentially the Chico* of record covers.
(*Chico may already have some connection with music – I can’t remember what it is)
They’re recreating that Mr. Bean episode where Mr. Bean ends up in the other guy’s kecks!
Here it is in all its glory.
Oh no, they might get mud on those delightful trousers!
If I know my mod-culture …
… if one Herbert has turn-ups and the other Herbert doesn’t, one Herbert must be a complete pilchard and the other Herbert can’t be, until next Tuesday, when the Herbert who was a complete pilchard isn’t now a complete pilchard, and the Herbert who wasn’t a complete pilchard, now is.
Get Weller on the blower, he’d know.
