If anyone is interested Jason Isbell has tweeted he’s performing on this mornings Andrew Marr show. Maybe he will wade into the Brexit debate. Something more than free?
Some may have noticed I’m a fan and I accept a gig on BBC prime time (is Sunday morning prime time?) is a Biggie but I think the boy played it safe with Vampire?
Been pondering on that today – the audience was just as I imagine if every member of the AW (thirty three and a third I believe) gathered together in our virtual pub. It was indeed a belter of a concert although if I am honest I think I prefer Jason in not quite such a Let’s Rock vein. It was bloody loud – no chance of Mrs W falling asleep as is her wont at these concerts!
Agree the mix was not great (not awful just not great) which, at least up in The Circle , meant a leaden-footed drummer was over-exposed.
Mrs W’s complaints were not enough in between songs banter from Jason and a rather pedestrian light show.
Don‘t get me wrong, the band played tight, enjoyable rock ‘n’ roll, and Jason sang and played admirably. But on each side of the stage there were 6 humungous sub bass speakers, 12 in all. The kick drum was like a small thermonuclear device going off on the one and the three. It was 2 octaves below the bass ( I didn’t hear a note Jimbo played all night) and the loudest thing in the mix by far. What is wrong with front of house mixers these days? It was like being punched in the chest for 90 minutes, and killed the mix stone dead. It was unnecessary, and worse, unmusical. Speaker technology these days is superb, but this happens a lot, and I hate it. There seem to be too few intelligent balance engineers now – and way too many idiots that push the subs because they can! Go below 80hz with care and taste, please. And quit the kick drum solos. From Andy Roberts’ Facebook page.
I was also in the circle. Mix was loud but clean although I agree bass and keyboards were a bit lost sometimes. Bizarrely, I could hear a lot of the drummers brush work. I work at the Dome occasionally and the line array, subs and lighting rig are (I’m pretty sure) the Venue’s own rather than brought in just for this gig. There was definitely an issue with the lighting. It could have been caused by unfamiliarity with the desk, judging by the way some lights appeared briefly and went almost straight out again but I don’t actually know.
I didn’t know the AM Show served any other purpose than giving BBC News its top story every single Sunday, which is always “Minister says something that will have been forgotten this time tomorrow”

Ace gig in Brighton last night. What did you think Lodey?
How was the sound?. Read a review that said the sound mix was awful
I hear Noddy Holder didn’t even plug in his guitar.
Fake news. Very sad!
He was excellent in Twin Peaks though.
What a mean-spirited post.

Anyone else going to the Roundhouse show tonight?
Me. I think Carl mentioned he was going to be there too.
