Just finished Devs – astonishing, although I ended up not quite sure what it was I’d just seen. Alex Garland’s novelist career might have fizzled out, but he gives good TV.
I think this is the thread where I announce I’m about to tuck in to Season 1 of Life on Mars. First broadcast January 2006. Seems appropriate that I’m going back in time to watch it.
I’m fuming with deep rooted anger at @moseleymoles for tricking me into watching Giri/Haji. To paraphrase his post on the last Blogger Takeover: “We finished the massively under-rated Giri/Haji which concludes with one of the most WTF endings of any series I’ve seen in recent times and summat Gary would proper love.” Pah, stuff and nonsense. I thought it was ok, not bad I suppose (though nowhere near as good as Flesh & Blood, I must say), but I persevered for the famous WTF ending. I love WTF endings. But it wasn’t a WTF ending at all! SPOILER: There was a rather unexpected little ballet, involving the whole cast, followed by exactly the ending any drunken fool would have predicted half way through the series.
I’m thinking of writing a letter.
I think we’re going to have to call the whole thing off, G Boy. I thought the series itself was perfectly ok Thursday night fodder but that ballet sequence was brilliantly well done. Don’t call me, I’ll ….
Oh, I loved the ballet sequence! A really original and surprising touch. But that wasn’t the ending. The end ending – the baddies killed, the goodies free, the bit naughties facing the music – was a long way from WTF ending m&m had led me to expect. I thought at least, at the very least, one of the main characters would end up having sex with a donkey or something.
Only here could the climactic confrontation being through the medium of interpretative dance not be seen as a WTF ending. Though yes I agree with you @gary the last 10 mins was a formulaic wrap-up and the door left open unnecessarily for season 2, the ride was excellent with a cast full of great characters. I loved the way it slowed down in the middle to give everyone room to breathe.
Don’t most people, OK not al but most, stay dead? Bill certainly never strode the streets of Berlin in a dodgy scarf and anorak combo again.
The new series seems to be having trouble getting started. It only really comes to life when Villanelle is on screen, which she isn’t enough. The rest of th characters seem to be hangin around waiting for something to do.
Never bothered after season 1. I thought it was great for the first 3 episodes, but totally fell apart after that. It became an unwatchable mess. And I found the 2 lead characters extremely annoying.
I think if you accept it as a camp, fun show like the old TV Batman or The Avengers but with more suspense and violence, and you like the idea of that, then it’s good entertainment. No doubt this take will enrage someone who is very cross about a TV show being shown that they think is rubbish and they will tell me how wrong I am. 😁
A bit behind the curve but just finished Ozark season 3 and am now bereft. So good all the way through the 3 series – up there with the best TV drama I’ve ever seen.
And I’m two months behind you, FF. Third season was fab. To my shame I didn’t know Janet McTeer was an Engish actress until I looked her up on IMDB – she is terrifying*. Episode nine was one of those amazing hours of drama that stick in the mind – Laura Linney and the guy who plays her brother deserve nominations for that episode at least and Julia Garner is always great. Just announced that there will be a fourth and final season but who knows when they will be able to film it.
*Well, the character she plays is terrifying – she may well be a very pleasant person in real life…
No spoilers! I’m nearly at the end of series three. I like it, but it lacks the humour that, say, Breaking Bad had.
We’re half way through season 3. It’s really good but we have to pop in on The Durrells for a bit of light relief occasionally.
I never spotted that about the 4 quadrants!
I’ve spent quite a while listening to the bleepy electronic noises of a certain Circuit3 and only today noticed the name is a pun of “circuitry” 🤦♂️
Schitts Creek on Netflix is a must watch.
I watched the first episode and hated it. It must get better. Marvellous Mrs. Maisel is wonderful though.
It is worth giving it a go.
The first episode is atypical of the rest as it sets up the story.
Loved first season of MMM, 2nd season a bit less, 3rd season a bit less than that, but had one outstanding episode.
First season – excellent. Second season – so so. Third season – brilliant, brilliant!
I got bored halfway through the second season.
Now, Westworld. That is more like it!
Got bored with Westworld after about 3 episodes.
Are we just shouting out TV shows now?
Ok then, Boardwalk Empire
No. I believe I expressed an opinion on the subject matter and offered up a comparison.
The apoplexy you display is not only unwarranted, it is deeply hurtful.
But I’m apoplectic, so in my mind my response was, like, totally warranted.
I’m offended by your hurt.
Bosch. Watched 5 seasons on the bounce. Bisch basch…
@mikethep
Love the Bosch books. Is it only on Prime?
That’s where I watched it. Might be on iTunes I suppose.
If we’re just shouting out favourite TV shows, then…
Devs!
Little Fires Everywhere!

I finally got around to seeing “When They See Us” on Netflix last week.
A fine piece of work all round.
“A fine piece of work” ? More like the finest, most moving bit of TV I have ever ever seen!
You clearly haven’t seen the episode of Wish You Were Here where Judith Chalmers went through the menopause whilst in the Algarve.

One of the few things I bought on DVD, that and Our Friends In The North.
Me too! Never watched them again though
Giri/Haji SPOILER ALERT!

Did you watch all the way through the closing credits? Man alive, that donkey!

I got two months free of CBS, the company who own Star Trek.
As a result, I’ve just watched all of Picard and ST: Discovery.
They won’t change the minds of anyone who isn’t an ST fan, but if you enjoyed TNG, there is an awful lot to like in both shows.
Just finished the last episode. I didn’t see that coming!
In other news Killing Eve is back.
DID THEY FINALLY REALLY KILL SOMEONE OFF WHO MIGHT STAY DEAD??
Don’t most people, OK not al but most, stay dead? Bill certainly never strode the streets of Berlin in a dodgy scarf and anorak combo again.

If you found the lead characters in Killing Eve annoying you should definitely avoid the latest PWB-prodded thing, Run.
I know you shouldn’t judge something from the first episode alone, but ‘pleased with itself’ doesn’t even begin to cover it…
The last series was so fur coat and no knickers I wasn’t going to bother with this but Mrs. T wants to watch so I’ll have a look.

I really don’t think those symbols in Ozark represent ZARK by the way…
Took me a while to see it but I think @tkdmart is correct MC.
