Wendy Smith is one of them

Thanks for that, Lemonhope. That is exquisite and just the kind of track that I would miss out on without the AW
Is Simon the first Poet Laureate to be in a band?
Back in the day, of course ,poets and musicians would rub shoulders on Peel’s early shows. The Liverpool Scene spring to mind.
But was the case even earlier?
A Cumbrian Combo; Willy and the Wordsworths?
Samuel T.C. and the People from Porlock?

Now PreFab Sprout… there’s a perfect pop band. In a decent world little girls would dance to them, and pictures of the youthful almost-priest Paddy (not “Captain Birdseye” guise) would moisten gussets. Maybe when a great pop band is too knowing (e.g., Sprout, PSB, Madness) they lose the knicker-wetter market? Does this mean irony differentiates true transient pop trash from pop art?

Nice track. Simon Armitage has previous form here, as he also had a band in the late noughties called The Scaremongers, named after the Orange Juice album track. If memory serves they had a couple of songs on itunes which weren’t at all bad, in a Wedding Present-ish type of way.

cardigan girlThe Scaremongers had some very catchy, witty pop songs.
You can do nothing wrong in my eyes

This seems a good place to post this. Rehab Sprout – inc Neil Conti on Drums, Jess Bailey on Keys & Karlos Edwards on Percussion & vocals and Gary Clark. A save our venues version of Let There Be Music.
Apparently the plan was to gig Prefab Sprout songs, with Gary Clark taking the place of Paddy ( not being up to touring)

Who sings on the Sproutless project:? This is a fan led thing but I think Neil Conti is on drums – the vocalist is extraordinarily good at interpreting Paddy M whoever it is –

A click on a few links on the Bandcamp page, et voila –
The songs will all be recorded by Scott McPherson in his home studio. He will also be singing all material chosen, and although his vocal style is very similar to that of Paddy McAloon, he will not be trying as hard to emulate Paddy for this particular album.. And lending her “Wendy Smith” like vocal will be the extremely talented Andrea Perry

On a visit to my friend’s then shop he dissed the Bonzos, a black mark in my book.

Hmm, yes, “starting” a Bonzos collection with “Let’s Make Up…” is like starting a Kinks collection with “Percy.”
You could, but why would you?

Because “God’s Children” is a top tune.

Proof positive that you should never meet your heroes, because they’ll only disappoint you. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2010/sep/03/morrissey-simon-armitage-interview

That’s great, cheers. Now I know Armitage dislikes the Bonzo Band he’s gone up in my estimation too 🙂
