This is one of two albums I made during the lockdown. It’s available on all the major streaming services.
Digital Blues by Blue Grey. The second one is out on Friday 19th November.

Musings on the byways of popular culture
Leffe Gin says
Well, that worked well didn’t it?
Moose the Mooche says
Bloody good stuff, @leffe-gin . Seriously. All I’ve done in lockdown is put on a stone and nearly had a nervous breakdown, which isn’t nearly as good to listen to (dept of faint praise)
Leffe Gin says
Thanks!
Baron Harkonnen says
I’d love to listen but I don’t do streaming.
Leffe Gin says
Understandable, but, for someone with absolutely no fans, that nobody has ever heard of, physical media might be a bit of a stretch.
It’s on Soundcloud, which is a less evil form of streaming (I think?)…

It is.

How about Bandcamp? It offers the choice of downloads (mp3, flac, wav or even hi-res). You can even sell “merch” (e.g. CDRs)
Leffe Gin says
Yeah that’s a good thought. Haven’t looked at it yet, but I will.

How do you define it? Not that you have to. I had it down as Desert blues via The Blitz Kids.
P.S. I like it!
Leffe Gin says
I really don’t know. I started working on it, and this is what came out. I suppose the title ‘Digital Blues’ is an attempt at some definition. In the past I’ve always tried to conform to some idea of a style, but this time, nope. Just went for it.

I suppose there are some diverse influences at work. My favourite music is soul/r&b plus Delta Blues and 50s Jazz. However it seems that other things were at play here:
SETI – the music was actually generated using AI techniques in Python. Then I just did some sound design. Maybe Eno is an influence here?
The Crawl – I did this after I heard Alan Hawkshaw had died. Weirdly it uses samples of one of the other tracks (Lateral Meridian) although you can’t really tell.
Cactus Juice – I did this after I heard Dusty Hill had died. I was trying to think of the feel of Eliminator but kept getting drawn back to Tejas, their most underrated album. There’s a Ry Cooder vibe of course, and the guitar is kind of based on Nobody’s Fault But Mine by Blind Willie McTell.
Always Moving Forwards – I listened to the Techno channel on Apple Music for about 4 hours, then distilled it into this.
Lateral Meridian – fairly obviously, Tangerine Dream’s Hyperborea album.
Intergalactic Supercrusher – no idea, just messing around.
Brinjal – another one partially AI-generated. The tabla part is an AI that improvises like a tabla player would. There is an influence here of the King Crimson ProjeKcts, especially a track called Hindu Fizz that comes up in some of their improvs.
Sweet Levee Moan – you would think that this is based on Moby, but actually it’s a revived idea from a demo I did more than 25 years ago, but done much faster. The samples come from the Blues in the Mississippi Night album.
Air Burst in Sector 27 – influenced by Omar Rodriguez Lopez.
Dovedale Plantation – Eno + Ry Cooder + Carlos Santana’s devotional stuff.
Blue Stone – much of the above, but a touch of Pink Floyd here.
