Having just been in touch with the Pacemeister, late of this parish, I thought we should catch up with his activities downunder. Shane tells me he’s been doing really well in the Aussie blues chart with his Trio’s latest album, and his form band the Bondi Cigars have a comeback album on the go too.
Here he is in fabulous form a year ago. (There are plenty more recent vids on youtube, but I just loved the feel of this one, and it’s atmospherically filmed.) That Pacemaker – he’s a class act!

Nice one Colin. Shane and I have also exchanged scribbles in the past, and he kindly sent me CDs containing what he described as “all the Bondi Cigars any sane person could want”; but he sells himself (and them) short – they really do cut the mustard, I love his playing.

Yep can play alright. Annoyingly never saw them when I lived in Sydney. Always found the bands name a it off-putting. Now I’m in Melbourne and they are hardly ever here. Rats. .

For the benefit of the scatalogically unenlightened, a Bondi Cigar’ is a turd, usually but not necessarily human, found in the majestic waters off the titular Sydney suburb.
Dear me JW, you’re a sensitive little flower.
You surely don’t eschew the music of Muddy Waters for similarly straight-laced reasons?
Junior Wells says
Too expand, there was a sewerage outfall of Bondi Breach -well where else are you going to put it. Anyway currents being what they are , the floating human currants had a habit of doing a return to sender and ending up on the beach .There were demonstrations and eventually the outfall was extended by some considerable distance so I think the term bondi cigar is largely historical.
A preferred alternative I quite like is the brown trout as in “I am just going to catch a brown trout ” when heading off to the bog.
As for the name @garyjohn, I didn’t boycott them on the basis of being offended , I just thought it was a crap name, pun intended, and reckoned they would be crap similarly. Clearly I was wrong but I did see him in Melbourne a year or more ago ad caught up with Shane . Did a review for Afterword mach 1.
To your question @mikethep, they do tour, more north than south so you are more likely to see them than me -check his website. He lives on the NSW central coast so plays a bit up in Newcastle and those parts. He has also been playing with long running Sydney blues band the Foreday Riders.

Amazingly Shane grew up in Sheffield about half a mile from me. He’s a good lad. A fine guitarist with some nice instruments.

Great player!

By the way, the song Shane is playing so well there is Merry Go Round from the 1968 first LP by (Peter Green’s) Fleetwood Mac – aka the Dog and Dustbin album

Classy stuff – must keep an eye open for Brisbane gigs. What was his AW handle?
Mousey says
Er – shane pacey or summat like that
Junior Wells says

Blimey, Eric Burdon & the Animals! Free, too. I’m not a fan of the Gold Coast, though…Lismore or Ballina might be a better prospect – my in-laws live in that neck of the woods.

I read it that Junior was put off by the name ‘The Shane Pacey Trio’. I couldn’t figure out why this should be such a problem: did he not like Shane’s name? Was he appalled that it wasn’t a quartet?
mikethep says
Is he actually called Shane Pace and has been renamed Aussie-style?
Junior Wells says
no Mikey

Well as GJ observed, I’m a sensitive little flower Colin!
