And Ron should be celebrated accordingly. He wrote some of the best songs ever written, showed his Dr Robert on that album cover and grew a beard in bed. What more do you need from a pop star?
Do a poo poo!
That´s not Cheese & Onions, no. But if one needs to go one needs to go.
(And if you kind people haven´t seen The Rutles, this won´t make any sense at all. In that case, see Lennon, John. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this post.)
The great Piggy In The Middle is also on YouTube.
Happy 77th, Ron. This is a lovely alt take of ‘Jealous Guy’

That’s a lovely take. It reminded me he’s my favourite singer.
Doubleback Alley was a hidden track on The Tragical History Tour EP.
So hidden, that it wasn’t even on it.
Lennon is a concept by which we measure our choices of preferred Beatles solo material.
John needed Paula, and Paul needed John to create alchemy.
They still wrote some bloody good songs on their own

A couple of months ago, Imagine appeared on the car radio on a station that is usually Fab FM tosh and I allowed myself to get into it as if I hadn’t heard it a thousand times. Call me a sentimental old fool but it reminded me of the emotional pangs felt when he died. The words are optimistic, naive and full of peace and love. As his old mate might say…what’s wrong with that? I know familiarity breeds contempt and it attracts a great deal of that – but I think this is a special song and its message is not a bad legacy to leave to the world.
A few years ago, hearing take 1 of Imagine made me listen to the song with new ears. It’s one of those records where over familiarity makes it just wash over you.
The late very lamented Blast had zero time for Teh Be-Atles (as he would cryptically refer to them) but was a massive Rutles fan. Discuss.
PS What was the one Rutles scene/song which Lennon told Innes was a bit close to the bone?
Get Up And Go (Get Back)? It’s in the movie but not on the soundtrack.
It’s on the soundtrack I’ve got. I agree with George – too close to the original to have any value of its own.
Archaeology is an even better album.
It was left off the original 1978 issue, probably due to the above advice.
It was re-instated on the CD issue, along with a couple of other tracks from the film.
Agree that Archaeology is a triffid album. The later issues included the medley Rutalot – a Neil Innes swipe at Eric Idle and Spamalot
Shangri-La… The track All Around the World could have been.
I concur! Archaeology is a fab album.
It was George Harrison who made the comment, not John.
George, of course, was in the movie AND Life Of Brian. Quite a career in comedy! He also gets points for avoiding The Caveman.
He appears at 00:36.
It was John who said that Get Up and Go was a bit too close.
When I last saw the Rutles Ron made the claim again.
