If you like to gamble, I tell you I’m your man, you win some, lose some, all the same to me. The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say, I don’t share your greed, the only day I need is
the Eighth Of May, The Eighth Of May!
Post a favourite head-banging choon to celebrate; here’s mine:

I know it’s a bit “on the nose”, but this is my absolute cast iron number one fave head bangin’ toon…
I like the original Hawkwind version as well – but it’s more head-noddin’ than head-bangin’…

Spot on. A musical bill I am willing to die on is that Motörhead by Motörhead is the greatest single of all time.

They had three Top Ten hits in 1980-81. More even than The Clash! They were a big singles act for a year. Were on Tiswas and everything.

Thanks a lot for those two, @Matthew Best! What a treat!
Bill McClintock who did them was a new name for me but on the spot he became a big favourite here in Kaisfatdadsville.
I’m rather partial to Hayseed Dixie’s bluegrass take on Ace of Spades.

Awesome choice! I went to see these guys with a dobro-playin’ mate who’s big on Bluegrass, and we laughed and jigged about so much our legs and cheeks were aching by the encore – such great fun!

I’m not a great fan of the heavy rockular. Ace Of Spades, Smells Like Teen Spirit and Anarchy In The UK would be my three top picks. Purple, Priest, Zep, Maiden etc mostly fail to stimulate me sensorily. But I do got a soft spot for Rainbow, specially Rising, Long Live R’n’R and On Stage. I started to go off them big time when that Jimmy Buffet type fella made them all TOTPs. Then their drummer left to become the US Secretary of State and I gave up on them completely. Stargazer is the natch zenith, but this was always a fave:

In the early 80’s Quiet Riot had a couple of hits in the US covering Slade. Quiet Riot were / are Heavy Metal and Bang Your Head was another of their songs, here it is in mashup form (sorry if this is slightly off topic).

My favouritest Motörhead song.
From the much maligned Another Perfect Day album.

I like it best when bands cover themselves….

Like most people on this blog I suspect, I spend a lot of time browsing in stores and purchasing things just because they look interesting.
This is one such blind purchase, it was a 7 inch in the discount bin at Missing Link Records in Melbourne sometime in the late 1980’s.
I have placed it on many mix tapes for others since.
Skip the first bit of coughing, the song proper kicks off at about the thirty second mark with the time honoured “1 2 3 4!”
