Thanks everyone. Being a bit dim, what I want to know is whose server is not responding?
Checked my local internet provider’s download speed and it is 50 which is what I paid for.
@Mods. Any suggestions?
It’s just that the internet is a thing of wonder and mystery. Obvs if it was a common issue with multiple users we could escalate it to our hosting but without that we know exactly what the reply would be (and the Afterword hosting people are great, btw).
Yes that was fantastic. I suppose you would only know if it was a “common issue with multiple users” if people like my good self report the issue rather than muttering under their breath.
I think it’s caused by the Apple Privacy Feature being turned on, and how that interacts with YouTube’s servers. The Apple feature (Private Relay) makes it hard for a web server to track where the request to view the page is coming from; and YouTube sees that as a possible attack when the page asks for lots of videos at once. Gets into a bit of a mess. I seem to remember it’s possible to work around this by making sure that your web browser lets YouTube know who you are by automatically logging you in.
This probably looks like gibberish, sorry about that.
I find lately that I can no longer play YouTube clips (in Chrome) from these blog pages, only if I go from here to the YouTube site. I suspect it’s something I’ve done, tinkering with either the browser or YT’s settings but I don’t know what. I have no such problem with YT clips in Facebook, Zoom or from emails.
This is not the sort of answer we expect from you Fents!
“ did something but can’t remember what”.
That is what we bowl up to you expecting omniscient resolution.
Are you getting this when viewing one of those threads with multiple YouTube videos?
Lately, I’ve been getting “This site is not secure”. Anybody checked their bank accounts recently?
I checked yours. Needn’t have bothered as it turns out. I sent you €5 instead.
No probs for me lately either Google Chrome on a Mac/PC or Opera on a Pixel phone
I access on a Mac, an iPad and sometimes on my iPhone 11 – never had any problems like this.
I think the only issue I can recall seeing was on the phone with one of those YouTube heavy threads and that was just really slow loading.
No I get a different error for KFD syndrome
Fine on Google Pixel with the Samsung internet browser.
I invariably get a 404 error if I try to post from my iPad. No problem posting from my phone. It’s frustrating to say the least.
Edit. – *but not this time*

Glad we could help.

I didn’t get the “Go to first new comment” thing on Safari/iPhone, but I did something or other and it came back. Can’t remember what, though.

In my defence, I was on holiday and Mrs F was asking me “what are you doing?”
I think she was worried I was buying records online, in addition to all the ones I bought in Cromer.
Many of my replies to posts are now not accepted with an error message mentioning error 404.
Error 404 is but a cunning Mods’ algorithm concocted just for you .
What do you get?
Error 101?
Touche
I get 404 errors when the VPN is on. Turning it off does the trick.
…which kind of backs up my theory, because Apple Private Relay Thingy is a VPN of sorts, and that makes a difference for me.
But this is just opening up the blog.
Have you tried to “force stop” the Safari app and then clearing the app’s cache? On android this works often on many apps.
Will give it a try.
