I thought he died years ago. Probably because I thought he looked ancient on the cover of Pete’s Place, the album we had in the house when I was growing up.
Still have it, still play it. Brilliant album. Not fashionable to like these days, but if you make me choose between Pete Fountain and Miles Davis, then sorry, but Pete’s my guy.

The last time I saw Irma Thomas she would sing any song of her’s that the audience requested. However she refused to sing any gospel because she doesn’t mix r’n’b and gospel in the same show. What a shame. I’d have loved to see more like that. Soul music indeed.
