There have been several threads here regarding how to revive or extend / enhance your iPod classic but it looks like there’s a new way – add a Solid State Drive up to 1TB! That’s around 3000 UNCOMPRESSED tracks.
the link shows you how to do it yourself but I’m sure that plenty of services will spring up (or have already) that will do it for you at a price.

and listen on my phone.
Loads of room and i’ve freed myself from f#*@ing iTunes
I suppose the iPod refurb is only necessary if you want to avoid streaming – even if it is from your own server!
Sorry about the tiny picture…..and the massive one! Don’t know what happened!
I love the idea of refurbing my iPod Classic BUT I`m gonna get an expert to do it for me.
Not very practical for being out and about, is it? I have exactly the same setup for movies on my iPad, but I use an SD card containing a judicious selection if I’m travelling.
I can honestly say I’ve never had any problem with iTunes. It has its quirks, but what software doesn’t? I’ve certainly never found an alternative that improves the experience enough to make it worth the bother.
As for the OP, I’m in. I imagine ipodrepairs.co.uk will be on to it soon enough.
This was a reply to ip33. Blasted iPhone.
Not pocket friendly I admit but I do stick it in my rucksack and it works a treat. But I do use it mainly at work and it keeps me sane (sort of!).
Don’t care about lossless, because I can’t tell the diff. Don’t need the extra storage, because I have enough on my Classic with everything @192. Don’t care about iTunes because it’s only a means of getting stuff onto the iPod. The thing would be perfect if it lasted forever. Or even a bit longer.
Forgot to add that the linked article is the scariest thing I’ve seen since Donald Trump’s hair.
I still want a 320+ i pod…….
I recently lost my much loved 160GB Classic on a trip to France. Still in mourning and looking for a viable alternative…
I lost mine too. I suggest a FiiO X1. Memory card expandable up to 128GB and you can swap them in and out. Also lossless playback. Listening to Van right now …
Thanks Dai. I have looked at them but couldn’t work out a) if you have to drag and drop files on to it or whether it will work with iTunes or b) if it wIll it take the apple AAC format as I think I converted everything to that to free up space – I pretty regularly approached the 160GB limit and really am not a snob about audio quality.
a) Yes, drag and drop.
b) I believe so.
Was cheaper than an iPod as well. The interface is not quite as good, but it’s fine once you get used to it.
