A great set of albums at a good price. I bought mine a few months ago for roughly that amount.
Recommended.
minibreakfast says
Well worth getting. Got my set about three years ago IIRC for a shade under £25.
Scarlet says
Spent nearly thirty quid and I haven’t even got out of bed yet!
Thanks for the tip-off.
I’m going to thoroughly enjoy the hell out of those.
Happybird says
Changing tack slightly ( hope that’s alright ) if you didn’t want to get the box set or start at the beginning where would you start looking at Joni Mitchell’s stuff ?
minibreakfast says
Definitely start with Blue, then I’d suggest Ladies Of The Canyon and Court And Spark. But all ten in the box are great, in their own ways.
pencilsqueezer says
Blue, Court And Spark, Hejira, Hissing Of Summer Lawns.
The box set is very, very good value if you don’t already have a ridiculous amount of Joni Mitchell albums. *cough*
minibreakfast says
Since Tigger revealed he likes to get jiggy to Hejira it’s thrown the album into a whole new light for me.
*shudders*
pencilsqueezer says
He has an unhealthy interest in aviatrixes. It’s the gauntlets that does it.
SteveT says
Getting Jiggy to Hejira is a new one on me and I love Joni.
Tiggerlion says
It’s perfect. Try it with subdued lighting and a Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger candle. The candle costs twice as much as the box set but well worth the investment.
pencilsqueezer says
Good grief now I’m getting the horrors too.
JustB says
*stumbles in a semi-crouch from room, hands clamped over mouth, vomit leaking between fingers*
pencilsqueezer says
Do you “make it” all the way to Refuge Of The Roads Tigg?
Or is it all “done and dusted” before the last few bars of Coyote?
Tiggerlion says
I have to put it on repeat.
SteveT says
Jo Malone candles? I spent enough on the Jo Malone perfume for the missus – she aint getting candles too.
Carl says
I notice on that page an even better deal for Leonard Cohen albums: 11 albums for £19:05 with an offer from an Amazon partner on the same page for £14:50. The albums are:
1. Songs of Leonard Cohen
2. Songs from a Room
3. Songs of Love and Hate
4. New Skin for the Old Ceremony
5. Death of a Ladies’ Man
6. Recent Songs
7. Various Positions
8. I’m Your Man
9. The Future
10. Ten New Songs
11. Dear Heather
What is it with selling off Canadians on the cheap?
minibreakfast says
Stopitstopitstopitstopitstopitstopit.
SteveT says
Would buy it other than I have all of them except New Skin.
The first 3 are excellent and the rest aren’t bad either.
duco01 says
For me, Recent Songs and I’m Your Man are a lot better than ‘not bad’.
Happybird says
Well that’s lots of places to start thanks
Smudger says
Never owned a single record of hers.
Occasionally hear something on the radio and think ‘I really ought to look into her back catalogue’ etc etc.
Well, you’ve talked me into it.
On the assumption it is as good as you make out – ta.
Junior Wells says
@smudger, if that is your level of motivation, go for those hits and non hits compilations. A box of albums may be too overwhelming.
minibreakfast says
Now listening to my car boot copy of Don Juan. It does that annoying thing of having Sides 1 and 4 on one disc, with 2 and 3 on the other, like Motown doubles do too.
pencilsqueezer says
I’d blame his reckless daughter for that.
Johnny Concheroo says
There are a couple of theories as to why they did that 1/4 – 2/3 configuration. The most plausible harks back to the days of auto-change record players.
You could stack the LPs to play side 1 and then drop side 2 to play in order without turning it over. Then repeat the process with sides 3 and 4
dai says
I believe that to be correct but as far as I know only kn North America.
dai says
In North America
Mike_H says
What on earth could the alternative theory be? The mind (mine anyway) boggles.
My vinly copy of “Electric Ladyland” is a 1+4, 2+3 configuration. I’ve always thought it was to make life easier for those with autochanger Dansettes or radiograms back in the days of glowing valves and dreadful speaker quality. I would have thought “Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter” was released in post-autochanger times.
Johnny Concheroo says
Good point. Don Juan was released in 1977. Did we all have high end stereo equipment then? I didn’t, but I stopped using the dreaded auto changer around 1969/70.
Johnny Concheroo says
BTW, the other theory I heard was that radio stations wanting to play a double album all the way through without a break would use two decks with side one on the first deck and side two on the other. They could then cue side two to start as side one ended.
Repeat with sides 3 and 4. Except there would be one slight break while the second disc was flipped over.
I daresay there aren’t too many radio stations around who would do such a thing today, mind you.
minibreakfast says
In such a case, a 1/3, 2/4 configuration would would make more sense.
