Last night I heard by off chance that Jimmy LaFave died 2 weeks ago. He was graced with a fantastic voice and aside from his own songs he was a fabulous interpreter particularly of Dylan.
I was in Austin for SXSW last year and was honoured to see him perform an amazing show at the Saxon pub with my mate @Baron harkonnen and another friend. We were blessed to see him that night.
I stumbled on this on Youtube, recorded 3 days before he died and at a concert for his benefit. Watch it until the end – it is unbelievably poignant.
Rest easy Jimmy.

As a tribute, this months download from Gretchen Peters is him doing her song ” On A Bus To St Cloud”…..

Don’t know him but yeah, rest easy.
Yes I was with @SteveT and Martin in the Saxon pub on that magical night in Austin Tx. Jimmy and his band came on stage around 00:45. I was a bit tired prior to Jimmy taking the stage within 20 seconds I was wide awake and smiling! It was the first and only time I saw Jimmy LaFave perform and I will never forget it.
I only learned of Jimmy`s passing yesterday when SteveT phoned me. Man, I didn`t even know he was ill. I am saddened and shocked.
I was made aware of Jimmy LaFave by a red foxy type denizen of this parish a few years ago, thanks Vulpes, I love the man`s music. If you`re a fan of Americana and haven`t heard of Jimmy LaFave I can recommend him without any reservations.
Fly high Jimmy, in peace for evermore.
Playing Cimarron Manifesto this evening, and so, so sad to think that Jimmy’s gone.
The guy had the voice of an angel and a love of life and singing live. In Austin he was legendary – thanks for all you gave us Jimmy.
