I really can’t recommend highly enough BBC Radio Ulster’s three-part Top 70 Van songs on the iPlayer. The tales of how his music has touched so many listeners’ lives will bring a tear to your eye, and the Northern Irish public pick a pretty eclectic bunch of songs (Brown Eyes Girl doesn’t make the Top 20). In fact, I’d find it hard to dispute their top three, with No 3 being a particularly deep cut that can’t have had too many airings on national radio over the years Well done everybody: fantastic bit of wireless and the perfect accompaniment to BB’s epic thread.

Listening to the first programme now and absolutely loving the Van tracks and especially the effect they have had on peoples lives….any way of , ahem, downloading these three episodes ? There must be a way?! Would love to have this on the ipod

I’m told that there is. In fact, I hink the appropriate software was mentioned in a thread on here when the iPlayer radio app started allowing downloads a couple of months back.

Get iplayer is still working great for me. I downloaded and listened to the final of the 3 shows, very good and surprisingly quite emotional. Altho cutting the songs to fit them all into 2 hours in was a bit of a pain, maybe needed to be spread over 4 shows, but that’s just me being greedy.
I’m now on a bit of a Van-kick at the mo…………….weirdly mixed with the new Maiden album. All good stuff tho.

Nice to see a few tracks from No Guru – up there with his best IMO.
These 3 programmes are just fab – I’m now in a full on Van obsessive state and have played little else in the last few days.
