Well it’s still fucked, if that’s what you mean. I’ll get an external one at some point, or pinch Mr B’s laptop for ripping duties. Not a huge problem, but I’d not expected it to die after only two years. Grr, first world problems.

Mine died one year and a few weeks after purchase. Wasn’t a Lenovo by any chance? I’ve gone solid state now – much faster start up and a step up in indestructibility.

Faster they certainly are, but as far as indestructibility is concerned, an SSD is nowhere near as tough as a good old HDD.
We’ll have to agree to disagree I’m afraid. No moving parts, lower failure rate, no humming, clicking and whirring, no risk from magnets, lower power draw, less heat generated and all without considering write speed and bootup speed. If it lasts more than the pathetic year the WD HDD lasted, I’ll be happy.
