It occurred to me that if I want to see an image of a greying, tired-looking, middle-aged bloke I just had to wait for an hour until the early-evening lager worked its way through my system and I’d see myself in the strategically place mirror in front of khazi.
And I was bored of that, but I’ve never got tired of fingering my way through a new acquaintance’s collection of the hard, physical stuff.
So, in the interests of full disclosure I’m going to show you mine in the hope you’ll show me yours.
Of course, if my first attempt to use Imgur goes belly up I’ll look like a nob.
That’s the same lot photographed from two different angles.
*waves tiny hand around, squints*
This is fake news!
Fake news! I would dearly like to see the LP collection of the POTUS.
Diminutive I suspect.
He only has CDs because of his tiny hands.
The spare room at Dynamite Towers is in redecoration mode, so mine are all over the floor of the bedroom at the moment. Getting up in the night, as one is increasingly prone to doing, has become a life or death challenge. I for one can’t wait to trip, break my neck, and have my last sight on earth, as my vision dims, be a close up of a Wilco album I bought and only played once.
Ahem. I can do you my downstairs bookcase, here seen in a rare “doesn’t have an ironing board in front of it” event.
A very fine collection of Lego there, Mr Dynamite. And I do like the dalek protecting your hoard against intruders.
Welcome to a new AW section called Readers Shelves
I’ll be posting my submissions tomorrow when I’ve got me proper computer back
(yes, I have a separate folder on the hard drive containing a selection of images)
I’ve learned that such photos are known as “shelfies”, which I find most pleasing.
Most of my unfeasibly large book collection is banged up in a container in Cornwall, but here’s a snap of my small but growing Oz collection of vintage Pans, Penguins, Puffins, Pelicans etc – something I seem to have developed an interest in of late. Bonus point for building the shelves myself, I feel.
My CD collection is non-existent.

Here’s one side of the den – and if you look closely you can deduce some of the things I’m currently listening to.
and then there’s all this stuff….
Here’s mine – it’s grown a fair bit since this was taken (a couple of years ago). I share the OPs delight in looking through other people’s music and book collections so thanks for starting the thread…
Spendors?
Superb.
The speakers are Celestion, the separates are a mixture of Marantz and Teac with a Technics turntable. I’m not really a tech-head but it all sounds good to these ageing ears.
I like your style, Andy. All these other f*ckers must enjoy getting on stepladders or else the AW is populated by an unlikely tribe of hoary old rock loving ex-basketball players…
I hear you, my friend! Thanks.
Two photos of my media room.
Going to need some more space soon !
I am not worthy
I want this one!
The vinyl wall.
Fab. Liking the Strat in shot.
At the other extreme…
I went digital a long time ago. Every now and then I refresh the contents of this shoe box from the bigger box of CDs in the loft. There’s vinyl up there too but Sonos / Spotify makes it redundant.
Well yeah, me too. Boxes and boxes of CDs in the loft but tbh since the advent of the iPod in about 2005, I’ve accumulated probably twice the amount of music that I ever had on CD. I’m Airplay rather than Sonos, but otherwise the same as you.
I do have a very small (approx 14″ x 14″) wooden box of vinyl in the living room containing maybe 50-60 records, because I only buy vinyl for records which are special in some way, and only play them when I want that cosy ritual of dropping the needle.
A few of my records

And a few more, the drawers are full of cd’s, stored in plastic wallets rather than the plastic cases.

And if it’s books you want…

A quick glance at the above photos reveals Ikea may well be a highly visited place for The Massive
I am impressed with the orderliness of the rooms pictured.
Here’s mine, probably symptomatic of my mind, all over the place.
If it works.
Hmm, it’s not loading, Hubes. And it says 1/0 images.
It worked then disappeared.
Maybe this time.
Ooh, a panorama! What a groovy den, Mr Rawls.
Wonderful room!
Thank you both.
I know roughly where things are but sometimes it takes a while to find them.
Another vote for this extremely groovy room. I think I would feel very confortable if I paid a visit there. Even if I couldn’t find anything.
I don’t have any up-to-date photos of my shelves, but here’s me fiercely guarding a couple of newly purchased crates in the wild, while Mr B goes off to fetch the sack barrow. As you can see, the seller has kindly lent me her chair, due to my being temporarily overcome by the wonderousness of their contents:

@Beany, stage left.
“Would you like some help taking your vinyls to the car, dear?”
*runs off with booty*
Is Crate-Digger’s Knee now a recognised medical condition? An RSI caused by endless crouching while rummaging in floor-level boxes of tatty old records.
Other ways of doing your knees in are available.
Ahem .
Fab photo! I presume the large white van in the background is soon going to be used to take home all your purchases.
When did courier companies all becomes “logistics” anyway?
Everyone offers “solutions” nowadays too.
Especially Bostik.
I’ll get me boater.
I’m far too embarrassed to show mine. It isn’t very big and you’d only point and laugh.
It ain’t what ya got, it’s what ya do with it!
