The new Parquet Courts album is a blast. A step up from a band that threatened to not deliver on its initial promise. This song “Almost Had to Start a Fight / In and Out of Patience” is a Venn diagram moment.
‘All the stuff I listened to before 1986’
meets
‘All the stuff I’ve listened to since 1986 that reminds me of what I loved about all the music I listened to before 1986’

You drew me in Bisto with the Jimi Hendrix bit but I’m afraid the Quet ain’t for me. IMHO which counts for nowt much, I think, after listening to 3-4 tracks more from PC their sound is a generic punk sound. Hard to differentiate between PC and a lot of other punk(ish) bands. However if it makes you happy…

It’s his voice that reminds me of Jimi. I take your point about their being generic. Hence the Venn-ness.
The album taps into a few styles but what stands out for me is their ability to add something of their own to the mix. Here’s another track from the album, Mardi Gras Beads

I’ve seen this band live – they were ploughing that psych-rock cul-de-sac and heading for Brian Jonestown but this new stuff sounds alright – at least sounds like they’ve listened to some Wire , Talking Heads or Gang of Four records. This is the single – makes me think whatever happened to The Rapture….

I’ve been listening to this a lot this week. It’s doesn’t do much original but it does what it does very well.
I think getting Danger mouse (the producer – not the cartoon) to produce has done wonders for them.
